Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,037 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,037 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 56 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Vision Jet taxiing from the parking area to the runway at ETSK Kaufbeuren AB, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 20, with a takeoff distance of 713 meters, which accounted for 34% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 101 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 14°C and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 259°. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead ETSK Kaufbeuren AB, and climbed from an altitude of 2,755 feet above sea level to 10,360 feet, an increase of 7,605 feet, in 6 minutes and covering a distance of 22 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise phase began overhead Nesselwaengle, in Tirol, Austria, and lasted for 13 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 55 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another enroute climb, this time from 10,798 feet to 11,960 feet, an increase of 1,161 feet, in just 3 minutes and covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The climb took place 1 mile northeast of Solda, in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy.
The enroute descent phase started 2 miles west of Peio, in Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy, and involved a descent from 11,838 feet to 6,675 feet, a decrease of 5,163 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 25 at LIQM Aviosuperficie Passo del Tonale, flying from the east and heading 252.0° at an altitude of 396 feet above ground level and a distance of 1 nautical mile from the runway.
The landing took place on runway 25, which had a length of 1,037 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was excessively high at 96 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 57 meters, but the touchdown speed was excessively fast at 94 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth at -102 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 164°, resulting in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 368 meters, which accounted for 35% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The total flight distance was 97 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 35 minutes. The aircraft used 132 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Vision Jet successfully landed at Aviosuperficie Passo del Tonale, LIQM, with a score of 90.7%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 252.0° at 1 nautical mile and 396 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on runway 25, which has a length of 1,037 meters.
The threshold height was reported as good, but the threshold speed was excessively high at 96 knots. This indicates that the pilot may have been able to slow down more efficiently before touchdown. The touchdown distance was good at 57 meters, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
However, the touchdown speed was excessively fast at 94 knots, which may have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear and brakes. The touchdown rate was smooth at -102 feet per minute (fpm), indicating that the pilot maintained control and avoided any sudden drops or bounces.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.4 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's approach or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system. The local weather conditions were relatively calm, with a temperature of 13°C and a wind speed of 8 knots at 164°.
The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was zero. The total landing distance was 368 meters, which is 35% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot executed the landing smoothly and efficiently.
The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control and avoided any deviations from the centerline during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some areas for improvement, such as reducing the threshold speed and touchdown speed.
