Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,018 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,018 ft of the 11,190 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,780 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Tan Son Nhat International Airport, taking 7 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 25L, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 185 knots. The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 87°F, with a wind speed of 2 knots from a direction of 180°.
As the aircraft climbed out of Ho Chi Minh City, it began its enroute climb, ascending from an altitude of 1,044 feet above sea level to 30,781 feet above sea level, an increase of 29,738 feet in just 19 minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 98 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered a level cruise phase, lasting 3 minutes and covering 27 nautical miles, before beginning another climb phase 34 miles south of Phan Rang-Thap Cham.
During this second climb phase, the aircraft ascended from 30,762 feet to 32,468 feet, an increase of 1,707 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, lasting 87 minutes and covering 664 nautical miles, before beginning its descent phase 3 miles southwest of Cabra.
The descent phase saw the aircraft descend from 32,731 feet to 1,391 feet, a decrease of 31,339 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 76 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 24 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport was made from the northeast, with the aircraft heading 239.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,341 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 24 was successful, with the aircraft touching down 412 feet beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 134 knots. The touchdown rate was smooth at -120 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 85°F, with a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 240°.
The total landing distance was 4,750 feet, which was 42% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took just 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 887 nautical miles, taking 141 minutes, and the aircraft used 12,934 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at RPLL Ninoy Aquino International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 239.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,341 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, setting the stage for a smooth touchdown.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 24, which has a length of 11,190 feet. The threshold height at 56 feet agl was slightly above the target, but the threshold speed of 140 knots was well within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was 412 feet beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight overrun, but the touchdown speed of 134 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -120 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth.
The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 85°F and a wind speed of 3 knots at 240°. The crosswind was negligible at 0 knots, and the headwind was 3 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing. The total landing distance of 4,750 feet was 42% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll.
The runway rollout alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and control during the landing. Overall, the Airbus A321's landing at RPLL Ninoy Aquino International Airport was a success, with a high score and a smooth touchdown.
