MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,869 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,869 m of the 3,206 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 743 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 10 at VOVZ Vishakhapatnam, with a takeoff distance of 402 meters, which accounted for 15% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 115 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 11 knots at a direction of 50 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The aircraft successfully took off and began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile east of VEVZ Visakhapatnam Airport. The climb was from an altitude of 1,055 feet above sea level to 28,975 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,921 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 46 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 21 miles northwest of Madugula. This phase lasted for 25 minutes and covered a distance of 172 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, which started 34 miles east of Mul. The descent was from an altitude of 28,912 feet above sea level to 3,585 feet above sea level, a decrease of 25,327 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 78 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 7 miles west of Umred and lasted for 4 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 32 at VANP Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport was made from the southeast, with a heading of 323.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,247 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 32 was successful, with a touchdown point 316 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 92 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -62 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 20 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 5 knots at a direction of 10 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,778 meters, which accounted for 55% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 16.2 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 313 nautical miles, which was covered in 64 minutes, and the aircraft used 727 kilograms of fuel.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation successfully landed at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport, with a final approach score of 89.3%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 323.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,247 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a smooth landing on runway 32, which has a length of 3,206 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target speed of 104 knots. However, the touchdown speed of 92 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a well-controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -62 feet per minute (fpm) was also excellent, demonstrating the pilot's ability to manage the aircraft's descent and maintain a stable approach.
Despite the good touchdown speed and rate, the landing was not without some issues. The touchdown point was 316 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight overcorrection or a delay in the pilot's decision to touch down. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline, which could have been due to a slight deviation in the pilot's alignment or a minor issue with the aircraft's navigation system.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 10°. The crosswind and headwind components were both 3 knots, which is relatively minimal and should not have significantly impacted the landing. The total landing distance of 1,778 meters was 55% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range.
Finally, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 16.2 meters from the centerline, which may indicate a slight deviation in the pilot's control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, while the landing was not perfect, the pilot demonstrated good control and management of the aircraft, and the score of 89.3% reflects a generally satisfactory performance.
