Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,408 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 646 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 06L at CYUL Montreal / Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 354 meters, which accounted for 11% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 155 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 23 knots from a direction of 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 22 knots and a headwind of 7 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead CYUL Montreal / Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport and continued to an altitude of 34,976 feet above sea level. This climb, which covered a distance of 90 nautical miles, took 17 minutes and involved an increase in altitude of 33,861 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started overhead Richmond (Ontario, Canada) and lasted for 14 minutes. During this time, the aircraft covered a distance of 98 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase then began, which started 4 miles north of CSW6 Hastings / Sweetwater Farms Airport Asphodel-Norwood (Ontario, Canada). The descent, which covered a distance of 86 nautical miles, took 26 minutes and involved a decrease in altitude of 33,339 feet.
The final approach to runway 33L at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport was made from the south east, with the aircraft heading in a direction of 317.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,270 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 33L, which had a length of 2,408 meters. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 138 knots.
The touchdown point was 254 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -139 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.3 meters. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were the same as at the time of departure, with a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 23 knots from a direction of 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 23 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,207 meters, which accounted for 50% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, a process that took 12 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 283 nautical miles, and the flight took a total of 79 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 2,825 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed on runway 33L at CYYZ Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport, achieving a score of 94.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the south east, heading 317.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,270 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot maintained a good threshold height, which is a crucial aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 137 kt, registering at 138 kt. However, the touchdown speed of 129 kt was a bit faster than desired. The touchdown rate was smooth, with a descent rate of -139 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 3.3 meters, which may require some adjustments during the landing process.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 23 kt from 330°. This resulted in a 5 kt crosswind and a 23 kt headwind, which the pilot effectively managed during the landing. The total landing distance of 1,207 meters was 50% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance.
One of the notable aspects of this landing was the runway rollout alignment, which was very good. This suggests that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase, ensuring a smooth and stable transition from the landing to the taxiing phase. Overall, the landing was successful, with the pilot demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft in challenging weather conditions.
