MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
At the 1,000 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
At the 500 ft gate: speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 10,004 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 1,547 ft touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 02 at KPGV Pitt-Greenville Airport in Greenville, North Carolina. The takeoff distance was 2,121 feet, which accounted for 31% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 138 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 61°F temperature and a 2-knot wind at 270°. The enroute climb started 1 mile north of KPGV and reached an altitude of 25,013 feet above sea level, an increase of 24,020 feet in 10 minutes and covering 49 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 5 miles east of Littleton, North Carolina, and lasted for 44 minutes, covering a distance of 315 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent 1 mile northeast of OH07 Sunset Strip Marlboro in Ohio, descending from 24,992 feet to 10,126 feet in 11 minutes and covering 61 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 21 miles northwest of Bratenahl, Ohio, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 18 nautical miles. The descent started 9 miles south of CYCK Chatham Kent Airport in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada, and the aircraft descended from 10,132 feet to 7,184 feet in 3 minutes and covering 17 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began again 1 mile west of Chatham, Ontario, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering 20 nautical miles. The descent started 1 mile southwest of Algonac, Michigan, and the aircraft descended from 6,486 feet to 5,321 feet in 2 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 5 miles south of New Baltimore, Michigan, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering 24 nautical miles. The descent started overhead Ferndale, Michigan, and the aircraft descended from 4,992 feet to 1,931 feet in 4 minutes and covering 12 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport was made from the northeast, heading 209.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level. The landing was made on the runway, which had a length of 10,004 feet. The threshold height was good, but the threshold speed was too high at 116 knots.
The touchdown point was 160 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 108 knots, which was too fast. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -218 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 59°F temperature and a 2-knot wind at 270°, with a 2-knot crosswind and a 1-knot headwind.
The total landing distance was 2,887 feet, which accounted for 29% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 532 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 100 minutes. The aircraft used 2,913 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation successfully landed on runway 21L at KDTW Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport, achieving a score of 94.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the northeast, heading 209.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,285 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot executed a precise final approach, with a good threshold height, indicating a well-controlled descent.
However, there were some areas for improvement during the landing. The threshold speed was too high at 116 knots, which may have resulted in a slightly longer landing distance. Additionally, the touchdown speed of 108 knots was also too fast, which could have put additional stress on the aircraft's landing gear. The touchdown rate of -218 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, but not ideal.
Despite these minor issues, the pilot demonstrated excellent control during the landing. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating a precise and controlled approach. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 59°F and a light wind of 2 knots at 270°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 2 and 1 knots, respectively.
The total landing distance of 2,887 feet was 29% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance. This suggests that the pilot was able to maintain a high level of control and precision during the landing. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating a smooth and controlled rollout after touchdown.
Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating a high level of skill and control. However, there is still room for improvement in terms of threshold speed and touchdown speed. With some fine-tuning, the pilot can achieve an even higher level of performance and precision during future landings.
