Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 791 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 791 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 448 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The XCub aircraft departed from Hamm-Lippewiesen Airfield, taking off from runway 24. The takeoff distance was 285 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 80 knots, reaching the desired altitude quickly.
As the aircraft entered the enroute level cruise, it flew overhead Hamm in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany. This phase of the flight lasted for 10 minutes and covered a distance of 17 nautical miles. The local weather conditions during this time were characterized by a temperature of 3 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 8 knots from a direction of 220 degrees.
Upon reaching the destination, the XCub aircraft began its descent and prepared for landing on runway 25 at Soest-Bad Sassendorf Airfield. The runway length was 791 meters, and the threshold height was well above the target, indicating a safe margin for landing. However, the threshold speed was excessively high at 81 knots, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly above the ideal speed for landing.
The touchdown distance was good, measuring 302 meters, but the touchdown speed was fast at 57 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -296 feet per minute, indicating a relatively smooth landing. Unfortunately, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 12.9 meters from the centreline, which may have contributed to the slightly misaligned runway rollout alignment of 13.3 meters from the centreline.
The local weather conditions during landing were similar to those during the enroute level cruise, with a temperature of 3 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 237 degrees. The crosswind was minimal at 2 knots, while the headwind was 7 knots. Overall, the total landing distance was 373 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The total flight distance was 17 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 11 minutes. The aircraft used 5 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The XCub aircraft has successfully landed on runway 25 at the Soest-Bad Sassendorf Airfield, but with some areas for improvement. The landing score of 68.8% indicates that the pilot could have done better in certain aspects of the landing.
One of the notable issues was the threshold height, which was significantly above the target height. This could have been due to the pilot's decision to flare the aircraft too late or not aggressively enough. As a result, the aircraft touched down at a higher speed than desired, which is evident from the touchdown speed of 57 kn, which is considered fast.
The touchdown distance of 302 meters was good, indicating that the pilot had sufficient control over the aircraft's descent. However, the touchdown rate of -296 fpm was only fair, suggesting that the pilot could have done a better job of controlling the aircraft's rate of descent.
The runway touchdown position was also misaligned by 12.9 meters from the centreline, which could have been due to the pilot's failure to align the aircraft properly with the runway or a slight drift during the approach. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 3°C and a headwind of 7 kn, may have also contributed to the misalignment.
The total landing distance of 373 meters, which is 47% of the runway length, is acceptable but could be improved. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 13.3 meters from the centreline, which could have been due to the pilot's failure to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout.
Overall, the pilot could have done a better job of controlling the aircraft's descent, touchdown speed, and alignment with the runway. However, the landing was still successful, and with some practice and improvement, the pilot can achieve a higher landing score.
