Flight Score
Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,996 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 505 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-800, then departed from runway 10 at SBPS Porto Seguro Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,024 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 139 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and winds of 4 knots at 60 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, and the headwind was 3 knots. After departure, the enroute climb started overhead Porto Seguro, with the aircraft ascending from 1,110 feet above sea level to 40,018 feet above sea level, an increase of 38,908 feet in 17 minutes and covering 101 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 17 miles west of Medeiros Neto and lasted 56 minutes, covering 383 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 4 miles west of Eloi Mendes, descending from 40,022 feet above sea level to 4,163 feet above sea level, a decrease of 35,859 feet in 25 minutes and covering 123 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise resumed 2 miles west of Guarulhos and lasted 3 minutes, covering 1 nautical mile.
The final approach to runway 10R at SBGR André Franco Montoro International Airport was made from the west, heading 74.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,282 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 10R, which had a length of 2,996 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 131 knots.
The touchdown point was 91 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 125 knots, which was fast. However, the touchdown rate was excellent at -98 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect after the landing. The local weather conditions during landing were a temperature of 24 degrees Celsius and winds of 2 knots at 210 degrees, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,205 meters, which accounted for 40% of the runway. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 616 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 106 minutes. The aircraft used 3,704 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-800 aircraft successfully landed at SBGR André Franco Montoro International Airport, achieving a high score of 98.3%. The final approach to runway 10R was conducted from the west, with a heading of 74.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,282 feet above ground level (agl).
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with the threshold height being well within acceptable limits. However, the threshold speed was above the target speed, reaching 131 knots. This may indicate that the aircraft was slightly overpowered or that the pilots were taking a more cautious approach to ensure a safe landing.
The touchdown point was located 91 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 125 knots was slightly faster than the ideal speed, but the touchdown rate of -98 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 24°C and a light wind of 2 knots from 210°. The crosswind and tailwind components were minimal, at 1 knot each, which suggests that the pilots had a relatively easy time aligning the aircraft with the runway.
The total landing distance of 1,205 meters was 40% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft throughout the landing process.
Overall, the landing was successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and the pilots demonstrating good control and judgment. The high score of 98.3% reflects the pilots' skill and experience in landing the Boeing 737-800 at SBGR André Franco Montoro International Airport.
