Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,683 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,683 m of the 2,708 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 528 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at LFH2 Bale Mulhouse, a process that took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 15, with a takeoff distance of 1,166 meters, which was 30% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 136 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 23°C temperature and a wind speed of 6 knots at 260°. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead Hesingue, France, where the aircraft climbed from an altitude of 1,907 feet above sea level to 22,646 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,739 feet in 10 minutes, covering a distance of 36 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 1 mile north of Frauenkappelen, Switzerland, and lasted for 9 minutes, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its descent overhead Gingins, Switzerland, where it descended from 22,480 feet above sea level to 2,994 feet above sea level, a decrease of 19,486 feet in 14 minutes, covering a distance of 58 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed overhead Nievroz, France, and lasted for 7 minutes, covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 17L at LFLL Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport was made from the north, heading 175.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,271 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 17L was successful, with the touchdown point being 115 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 133 knots, which was slightly above the target speed. The touchdown rate was smooth at -123 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 110°, with a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 2 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,605 meters, which was 59% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 161 nautical miles, taking 49 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,477 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Lyon Saint-Exupéry Airport, achieving a score of 96.0%. The aircraft was approaching runway 17L from the north, heading 175.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,271 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on a runway with a length of 2,708 meters.
Upon reaching the threshold, the aircraft's height was slightly above the target, indicating a minor deviation in the approach. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 138 knots, suggesting a slight increase in speed during the final stages of the approach. The touchdown point was located 115 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight overcorrection or a minor deviation in the aircraft's alignment.
The touchdown speed of 133 knots was a little fast, which could be attributed to the aircraft's descent rate or the pilot's decision to touch down at a slightly higher speed. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -123 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway during the touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots at 110°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. These conditions likely contributed to a smooth and stable approach.
The total landing distance was 1,605 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance, considering the runway length and the aircraft's weight and speed. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well-controlled during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was executed well, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 96.0%. The minor deviations in height and speed were not significant enough to impact the overall performance of the landing.
