Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,894 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 209 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, an ATR 72, then departed from runway 12 at Oulu Airport (EFOU), with a takeoff distance of 788 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 121 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of -7°C temperature and a wind speed of 15 knots at 90 degrees. The crosswind component was 8 knots, while the headwind component was 13 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Oulunsalo, Finland, and rising from an altitude of 319 meters above sea level to 5,155 meters above sea level, an increase of 4,835.8 meters, in 13 minutes and covering a distance of 35 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 11 miles north of Haapavesi, Finland, and lasting 44 minutes, during which it covered a distance of 184 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 6 miles south of Padasjoki, Finland, and descending from 5,201 meters above sea level to 917 meters above sea level, a decrease of 4,283.7 meters, in 9 minutes and covering a distance of 37 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 5 miles north of Kellokoski, Finland, and lasting 2 minutes, during which it covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. It then began another descent, starting 1 mile northeast of Savikko Airfield, Nurmijärvi, Finland, and descending from 892 meters above sea level to 617 meters above sea level, a decrease of 275.4 meters, in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile southeast of Nurmijärvi, Finland, and lasting 3 minutes, during which it covered a distance of 5 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 15 at Helsinki Vantaa Airport (EFHK) was made from the northwest, with a heading of 152.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 345.5 meters above ground level.
The landing on runway 15 at EFHK was successful, with a touchdown distance of 210 meters and a touchdown speed of 103 knots. However, the touchdown rate was hard at -2.5 meters per second, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 9.2 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 2°C temperature and a wind speed of 9 knots at 150 degrees, with a crosswind component of 1 knot and a headwind component of 9 knots.
The total landing distance was 409 meters, which accounted for 14% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 10.0 meters from the centerline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 285 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 89 minutes, with a fuel consumption of 742 kilograms.
The ATR 72 aircraft successfully landed at EFHK Helsinki Vantaa Airport, achieving a score of 93.0%. The final approach was conducted from the north-west, heading 152.0° at an altitude of 345.5 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 109 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 210 meters and a touchdown speed of 103 knots, both of which were considered good. However, the touchdown rate was slightly harder than ideal at -2.5 meters per second. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 9.2 meters, which may have contributed to the slightly harder touchdown rate.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 2°C and a wind speed of 9 knots from a direction of 150°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 9 knots, which likely assisted the aircraft's approach and landing. The total landing distance was 409 meters, which accounted for only 14% of the runway length.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment was slightly misaligned from the centreline by 10.0 meters. This may have been a result of the initial touchdown position being off-centre, and it highlights the importance of maintaining alignment during the rollout phase to ensure a safe and controlled stop. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft achieving a good score despite some minor deviations from ideal performance.
