Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,582 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,582 m of the 2,790 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 440 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an Airbus A321, then departed from runway 30 at LEVC Valencia Airport, a Spanish airport. The takeoff distance was 1,704 meters, which accounted for 59% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 162 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of LEVC Valencia Airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 23°C temperature and winds of 5 knots at 50°. The crosswind was 5 knots, and the tailwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb started 1 mile northwest of the airport, where the aircraft climbed from 1,235 feet above sea level to 31,769 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,533 feet in 18 minutes, covering 111 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered a level cruise, starting 3 miles southwest of Falset, Spain, and lasting 5 minutes, covering 41 nautical miles. Another enroute climb started 3 miles northwest of LEDI Aeròdrom de Cervera, Spain, where the aircraft climbed from 32,764 feet to 36,037 feet, an increase of 3,273 feet in 3 minutes, covering 27 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 1 mile northeast of Coll de Nargo, Spain, and lasting 41 minutes, covering 329 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 1 mile north of Monthodon, France, where the aircraft descended from 36,145 feet to 35,094 feet, a decrease of 1,052 feet in 2 minutes, covering 12 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead Epuisay, France, and lasting 14 minutes, covering 102 nautical miles. Another enroute climb started overhead Bailleul-sur-Therain, France, where the aircraft climbed from 35,135 feet to 36,135 feet, an increase of 1,000 feet in 3 minutes, covering 23 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead Davenescourt, France, and lasting 40 minutes, covering 284 nautical miles. The enroute descent started 1 mile northeast of Detern, Germany, where the aircraft descended from 35,652 feet to 2,925 feet, a decrease of 32,727 feet in 17 minutes, covering 97 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead Sulfeld, Germany, and lasting 2 minutes, covering 4 nautical miles. Another enroute descent started overhead Jersbek, Germany, where the aircraft descended from 2,924 feet to 1,317 feet, a decrease of 1,607 feet in 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport was from the northeast, with a heading of 230.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,264 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 23 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 441 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was a little fast, and the touchdown rate was firm at -370 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.1 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 10°C temperature and winds of 5 knots at 270°. The crosswind was 3 knots, and the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,498 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good.
The taxiing period from
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, achieving a high score of 98.1%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 230.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,264 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good control, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 23, which has a length of 2,790 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 136 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 441 meters was within acceptable limits. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was a bit faster than desired, but the touchdown rate of -370 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centerline by 3.1 meters, which may require some adjustments in the approach path. The local weather conditions were favorable, with a temperature of 10°C and a gentle wind of 5 knots at 270°. The crosswind component was minimal at 3 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the approach.
The total landing distance of 1,498 meters was 54% of the runway length, which is a reasonable figure. The runway rollout alignment was excellent, indicating that the pilot maintained good control during the landing roll. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft came to a stop in a controlled manner.
