Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 7,351 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,857 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Boeing 737-700 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at KMAF Midland International Air and Space Port. This process took approximately 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft then departed from runway 34L, with a takeoff distance of 4,946 feet, which accounted for 52% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 149 knots.
As the aircraft climbed out of Midland, it began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile north of the airport. The climb took 17 minutes, during which the aircraft ascended from 3,898 feet above sea level to 37,944 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,046 feet. This climb covered a distance of 126 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started 3 miles north of Lawn, Texas, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering 30 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 3 miles northeast of TX11 Ross Planes Airport Cross Plains. The descent took 14 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 37,902 feet above sea level to 10,090 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,813 feet. This descent covered a distance of 93 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting overhead TX67 Hodges Air Field Keene, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering less than 1 nautical mile.
The aircraft then began another descent, starting overhead TX67 Hodges Air Field Keene. The descent took 12 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 10,090 feet above sea level to 3,338 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,752 feet. This descent covered a distance of 37 nautical miles. The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 3 miles southwest of Balch Springs, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 3 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final descent, starting overhead 6TA3 Culp Airport Lawrence. The descent took 2 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 2,939 feet above sea level to 1,770 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,169 feet. This descent covered a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 31R at KDAL Dallas Love Field, coming in from the southeast at a heading of 316.0 degrees. The aircraft was at 4 nautical miles and 1,280 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 31R, which had a length of 7,351 feet. The threshold height was slightly above the target, and the threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 138 knots.
The touchdown point was 473 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 132 knots, which was a little fast. However, the touchdown rate was smooth at -104 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 55 degrees Fahrenheit, with a wind of 4 knots at 310 degrees. The crosswind was 0 knots, and the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 3,582 feet, which accounted for 49% of the runway.
After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking area, taking approximately 5 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 300 nautical miles, and the flight took 60 minutes. The aircraft used 5,320 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at Dallas Love Field (KDAL) on runway 31R. The final approach was initiated from the southeast, heading 316.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,280 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a steady course throughout the approach, adhering to the standard procedures for landing.
Upon reaching the runway threshold, the aircraft touched down 473 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone. Although the touchdown speed of 132 knots was slightly above the target, the touchdown rate of -104 feet per minute (fpm) was smooth, indicating a controlled descent. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, signifying that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 55°F and a gentle headwind of 4 knots from a direction of 310°. The crosswind component was negligible, at 0 knots. These conditions contributed to a relatively smooth landing.
The total landing distance of 3,582 feet was 49% of the available runway length, which is 7,351 feet. This indicates that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining for a safe stop. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating that the aircraft maintained its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, with a score of 98.0%. The slight deviations from the target touchdown speed and threshold height were minor and did not compromise the safety of the landing.
