Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,093 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,093 m of the 2,985 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 917 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, Vueling EC-MGZ, then departed from runway 09R at Charles de Gaulle International Airport (LFPG) in Paris, France. The takeoff distance was 1,690 meters, which accounted for 47% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 157 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 39 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 5 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead the town of Mauregard in the Ile-de-France region of France. The climb took 22 minutes and covered a distance of 110 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 1,350 feet above sea level to 36,079 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which lasted for 60 minutes and covered a distance of 448 nautical miles. This phase began 1 mile northwest of the town of Saint-Eloy-de-Gy in the Centre-Val de Loire region of France. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began overhead the town of Tales in the Comunitat Valenciana region of Spain. The descent took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 100 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 36,306 feet to 1,434 feet.
The final approach to runway 10 at Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport (LEAL) was made from the west, with the aircraft heading 100.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,312 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 10, which had a length of 2,985 meters. The threshold height at 61 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 140 knots. The touchdown point was 500 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 130 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was firm at -355 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 9 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 209 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots. The total landing distance was 2,012 meters, which accounted for 67% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 7 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 670 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 129 minutes. The aircraft used 4,427 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, Vueling EC-MGZ, successfully landed at LEAL Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández Airport, scoring an impressive 88.1% on its final approach. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the west, heading 100.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,312 feet above ground level (agl). The pilot successfully guided the aircraft onto runway 10, which has a length of 2,985 meters.
Upon landing, the threshold height was found to be above the target, indicating that the aircraft touched down slightly higher than intended. However, the threshold speed was good, coming in at 140 knots, which is a desirable speed for landing. The touchdown point was located 500 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively safe distance. The touchdown speed of 130 knots was also good, and the touchdown rate of -355 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, indicating a controlled descent.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 9°C and a wind speed of 6 knots from 209°. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a tailwind of 2 knots, which did not significantly impact the landing. The total landing distance was 2,012 meters, which is 67% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and safely.
The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control of the aircraft during the rollout phase. Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot's skills and experience were evident in the smooth and controlled manner in which the aircraft was brought to a stop.
