Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,837 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 222 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 27 at VOCI Cochin International Airport. The takeoff distance was 463 meters, which accounted for 14% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 112 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 300 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 11 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile west of VOCI Cochin International Airport, rising from an altitude of 1,064 feet above sea level to 22,119 feet above sea level, an increase of 21,055 feet, in just 6 minutes and covering a distance of 15 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles northeast of Muvattupuzha and lasted for 11 minutes, covering a distance of 66 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 3 miles southeast of Sivagiri, where the aircraft descended from an altitude of 21,940 feet above sea level to 1,291 feet above sea level, a decrease of 20,649 feet, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 59 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 32 at VOTV Thiruvananthapuram International Airport was made from the southeast, with a heading of 316.0 degrees at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,262 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 32 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 221 meters, which was good. The touchdown speed was 83 knots, and the touchdown rate was excellent at -97 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 310 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 7 knots. The total landing distance was 912 meters, which accounted for 32% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took just 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 149 nautical miles and took 45 minutes, using 404 kilograms of fuel.
The Cessna CJ4 Citation successfully landed at VOTV Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, achieving a score of 95.5%. The aircraft approached the runway from the southeast, heading 316.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,262 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 32, which has a length of 2,837 meters. The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly below the target at 89 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 221 meters was considered good, and the touchdown speed of 83 knots was also within acceptable limits.
One of the notable aspects of this landing was the excellent touchdown rate of -97 feet per minute, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.9 meters from the centerline, which may require some adjustments in the approach or landing technique.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and a wind speed of 7 knots from 310°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 7 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 912 meters was 32% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the pilot maintained control and stability throughout the landing process. Overall, this landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down smoothly and coming to a stop in a controlled manner.
