MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,966 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,966 m of the 2,044 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 759 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 11 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a British Aerospace 146-200, then departed from runway 26 at Melbourne Essendon Airport (YMEN). The takeoff distance was 1,507 meters, which accounted for 79% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 131 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 170 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 18 knots and a tailwind of 3 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead Keilor East in the state of Victoria, Australia. The climb took 23 minutes and covered a distance of 118 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from an altitude of 963 feet above sea level to 27,758 feet above sea level, an increase of 26,795 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began overhead Beechworth Airstrip in Beechworth, Victoria, Australia. This phase lasted for 76 minutes and covered a distance of 553 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent, which began 1 mile north-east of Woodburn in the state of New South Wales, Australia. The descent took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 57 nautical miles, during which the aircraft descended from an altitude of 27,419 feet above sea level to 1,074 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,346 feet.
The final approach to runway 14 at Gold Coast Airport (YBCG) was made from the north-west, with the aircraft heading 149.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,032 feet above ground level and a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 14, which had a length of 2,044 meters. The threshold height was above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 132 knots.
The touchdown point was 333 meters beyond the touchdown zone, but the touchdown speed of 118 knots and the touchdown rate of -156 feet per minute were both good. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.2 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 10 knots from a direction of 110 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 7 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,875 meters, which accounted for 92% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 736 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 128 minutes. The aircraft used 5 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The British Aerospace 146-200 aircraft successfully landed at YBCG Gold Coast Airport, achieving an overall score of 80.7%. The final approach to runway 14 was initiated from the north-west, with the aircraft heading 149.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,032 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on runway 14, which has a length of 2,044 meters. The threshold height at 66 feet above ground level was above the target, indicating that the aircraft was slightly higher than desired at the point of touchdown. The threshold speed was also slightly above the target at 132 knots, suggesting that the aircraft may have been slightly faster than necessary for a smooth touchdown.
The touchdown point was located 333 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively significant distance. However, the touchdown speed of 118 knots was good, indicating that the aircraft was able to slow down effectively before touching down. The touchdown rate of -156 feet per minute was also good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to absorb the impact of landing smoothly.
One area for improvement was the runway touchdown position, which was slightly misaligned by 7.2 meters from the centerline. This may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's approach path or a miscalculation of the runway alignment. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a similar issue.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 26°C and a wind speed of 10 knots from 110°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 7 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the touchdown and rollout positions. Overall, while there were some areas for improvement, the aircraft was able to land safely and effectively at YBCG Gold Coast Airport.
