Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,612 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,612 m of the 3,602 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 643 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 12 at LIPE Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, with a takeoff distance of 924 meters, which was 43% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 150 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, with a wind speed of 3 knots at a direction of 60°. The crosswind component was 3 knots, while the headwind component was 2 knots. The aircraft climbed from an initial altitude of 1,138 feet above sea level to a cruising altitude of 33,894 feet, an increase of 32,756 feet in 15 minutes, covering a distance of 86 nautical miles.
The enroute climb started over LIPE Bologna Guglielmo Marconi Airport, and the aircraft continued to climb until it reached the cruising altitude. The enroute level cruise started 15 miles south-east of Lido di Jesolo, Italy, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 113 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 34,001 feet above sea level to 16,010 feet, a decrease of 17,990 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 59 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 1 mile west of Dienersdorf, Austria, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 15,993 feet above sea level to 8,296 feet, a decrease of 7,696 feet in 5 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started once more 1 mile south-west of Katzelsdorf, Austria, and lasted for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The aircraft then began its descent from 7,869 feet above sea level to 6,531 feet, a decrease of 1,338 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise started again 1 mile north of Winden am See, Austria, and lasted for 5 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 6,567 feet above sea level to 5,106 feet, a decrease of 1,461 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started once more 1 mile south of Bockfliess, Austria, and lasted for 8 minutes, covering a distance of 30 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent from 4,851 feet above sea level to 2,019 feet, a decrease of 2,832 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 16 at LOWW Vienna International Airport was made from the north, with a heading of 164.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,418 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 16 was successful, with a touchdown point 227 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was good, while the touchdown rate was fair at -232 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, and the local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots at a direction of 119°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,531 meters, which was 42% of the runway length
The aircraft in question, an E195, successfully landed at Vienna International Airport (LOWW) on runway 16. The final approach was initiated from the north, with the aircraft heading 164.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,418 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed with a good threshold height, indicating that the aircraft was properly configured for landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 141 kt, registering at 141 kt. The touchdown point was located 227 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 128 kt was within the acceptable range, demonstrating good control and management of the aircraft's descent. However, the touchdown rate of -232 feet per minute (fpm) was only fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have been slowed down more effectively during the final stages of the approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 9 kt from 119°. The crosswind component was 6 kt, while the headwind component was also 6 kt, resulting in a relatively calm and stable environment for the landing. The runway length of 3,602 meters was more than sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 1,531 meters, which accounted for approximately 42% of the runway.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment with the runway centerline was slightly off by 8.3 meters, indicating a minor deviation from the ideal path. Overall, the landing was executed with a high degree of proficiency, with the aircraft's speed, altitude, and alignment all being within acceptable limits. The score of 94.4% reflects the minor deviations from the ideal landing parameters, but overall, the landing was a success.
