Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,554 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 489 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight on the Boeing 737-800 began with a quick taxi from the parking area to the runway at Nome Airport in Alaska. The departure roll on runway 03 covered a distance of 924 meters, with the aircraft reaching a liftoff speed of 145 knots. The local weather at the time of takeoff was cold, with a temperature of -6°C and calm winds.
Once airborne, the climb phase took the aircraft from 1,057 feet above sea level to 39,123 feet, covering a total distance of 248 nautical miles in 35 minutes. The enroute level cruise lasted for 107 minutes, covering 820 nautical miles at a stable altitude.
As the flight progressed, the descent phase began approximately 20 miles southwest of Steamboat Bay Seaplane Base, bringing the aircraft from 39,393 feet above sea level to 1,807 feet in just 14 minutes over a distance of 139 nautical miles.
The landing was executed smoothly on runway 13 at Sandspit Airport, with the aircraft touching down 492 meters from the threshold at a speed of 151 knots. The local weather at the time of landing was warmer compared to departure, with a temperature of 9°C and a headwind of 22 knots. The total landing distance was 1,008 meters, utilizing 65% of the runway length.
Overall, the flight covered a total distance of 1,214 nautical miles, lasted 164 minutes, and consumed 7,484 kilograms of fuel. The entire journey was completed efficiently and safely in the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
