Get the gear down before the gate
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out. These checks are the approach's score.
At the 300 ft gate: gear still up and centreline 21.5° off, against a 1° limit.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 880 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 880 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 377 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The 0.24 G arrival is the firm side of smooth.
The rest of the report
The Beechcraft Sierra C24R taxied to runway 26 at EGHP Popham Airfield and commenced its departure roll. The aircraft lifted off after a takeoff distance of 484 m, representing 55 % of the runway, at a liftoff speed of 63 kt. Ambient conditions were a temperature of 15 °C with a wind of 2 kt from 269°, resulting in a headwind component of 2 kt and zero cross-wind.
During the climb phase the aircraft departed the vicinity of EGHP Popham Airfield and Basingstoke, ascending from 813 ft asl to 1,098 ft asl. The altitude gain of 285 ft was achieved in 1 minute while covering a horizontal distance of 2 nm.
Level cruise began approximately 1 mile south of Overton, Hampshire, and was maintained for 6 minutes. In that interval the aircraft progressed 9 nm at a constant altitude.
The descent for the final approach reduced the aircraft from 449 ft agl to 17 ft agl in 49 seconds, establishing the profile required for a stabilized approach.
On final approach to runway 26 at EGHP Popham Airfield the crew executed the approach under the same temperature of 15 °C and wind of 2 kt from 269°, with a headwind of 2 kt and no cross-wind. The approach was recorded as having scored on the stabilisation gates.
Touchdown occurred on runway 26, which is 880 m long, with a threshold speed of 70 kt. The aircraft’s touchdown distance was 234 m and the touchdown speed measured 54 kt. The vertical speed at touchdown was smooth at minus 101 fpm, and the touchdown point was offset by 3.1 m from the centreline. The total landing distance recorded was 367 m, equivalent to 42 % of the runway length.
Runway rollout alignment was assessed as very good, with the aircraft remaining on the centreline throughout the deceleration phase.
In summary, the flight covered a total distance of 12 nm, required 8 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 4 kg of fuel.
The Beechcraft Sierra C24R made a final approach to runway 26 at EGHP Popham Airfield, descending from 449 ft agl to 17 ft agl in 49 seconds while scoring on the stabilisation gates; ambient conditions were 15 °C with a 2 kt wind from 269° and a 2 kt head-wind component.
At threshold the aircraft presented a good threshold height and a good threshold speed of 70 kt, indicating the flare was initiated within the expected parameters.
Touchdown occurred 234 m down the runway at a speed of 54 kt with a smooth vertical rate of -101 fpm; the touchdown point was slightly misaligned by 3.1 m from the centreline.
The rollout covered a total landing distance of 367 m, representing 42 % of the 880 m runway, and runway rollout alignment was very good.
To improve the overall score, focus on reducing the lateral deviation at touchdown to bring the touchdown point closer to the centreline, while maintaining the current speed and rate control that produced a smooth landing.
