Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,881 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 435 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking to the runway at London Heathrow Airport, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 27R, with a takeoff distance of 86 meters, which is 2% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 148 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 13°C temperature and winds of 8 knots at 160 degrees. The crosswind was 8 knots, while the tailwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Harmondsworth, where the aircraft climbed from 1,108 feet above sea level to 5,641 feet, an increase of 4,533 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles south of Eton Wick, lasting 3 minutes and covering 15 nautical miles. The aircraft then started another enroute climb, this time from 5,743 feet to 13,485 feet, an increase of 7,743 feet in 3 minutes, covering 15 nautical miles. The climb took place overhead Pangbourne. The enroute level cruise resumed 1 mile southwest of Letcombe Regis, lasting 3 minutes and covering 21 nautical miles.
As the aircraft continued its journey, it began its descent from 13,548 feet to 1,822 feet, a decrease of 11,726 feet in 13 minutes, covering 31 nautical miles. The descent started overhead Great Somerford. The final approach to runway 09 at Bristol Airport was made from the west, heading 86.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,204 feet above ground level.
However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at 45 feet above ground level. The aircraft then landed on runway 09 at Bristol Airport, with a runway length of 1,881 meters. The threshold height was well above target, but the threshold speed was slightly above target at 128 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 435 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 120 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -388 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.8 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 8°C temperature and winds of 17 knots at 149 degrees, with a crosswind of 15 knots and a headwind of 8 knots. The aircraft landed on the runway, with a total landing distance of 1,430 meters, which is 76% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking from the runway took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 109 nautical miles, taking 57 minutes, and the aircraft used 2,869 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed on runway 09 at EGGD Bristol Airport, with a score of 83.6%. The final approach was initiated from the west, heading 86.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,204 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 1,881 meters.
The threshold height at 74 feet agl was well above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than desired at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 128 knots, suggesting that the aircraft was approaching the runway at a slightly higher speed than intended. This trend continued in subsequent approaches, with the threshold height at 76 feet agl also being well above the target and the threshold speed being slightly above the target at 128 knots.
In the final approach, the threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the desired altitude at the point of touchdown. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 132 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 435 meters, but the touchdown speed of 120 knots was a little fast. The touchdown rate was firm at -388 feet per minute (fpm), indicating a relatively steep descent.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.8 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to factors such as crosswind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 17 knots at 149°. The crosswind component was 15 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,430 meters, which is 76% of the runway length. This suggests that the aircraft was able to stop within a reasonable distance after touchdown. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a straight path after touchdown and during the rollout phase. Overall, while there were some minor issues with the landing, the Airbus A321 aircraft was able to successfully land on runway 09 at EGGD Bristol Airport with a score of 83.6%.
