Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,845 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,845 m of the 2,617 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,071 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, an A320-251N, then departed from runway 26L at EDDM Munich Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,943 meters, which is 49% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 163 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were a temperature of 17°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 260°. The crosswind was negligible, but there was a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting overhead Hallbergmoos in Bavaria, Germany. The climb took 22 minutes and covered 145 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 2,050 feet above sea level to 38,020 feet.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 2 miles east of EDER Wasserkuppe Airfield Gersfeld in Hessen, Germany. This cruise phase lasted 67 minutes and covered 496 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 1 mile south of Westhoughton in the Borough of Bolton, England. The descent took 19 minutes and covered 114 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 38,018 feet to 8,191 feet.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 14 miles northeast of Loughshinny in Leinster, Ireland. This cruise phase lasted only 6 minutes and covered 24 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 17 miles east of Dalkey in Leinster, Ireland. The descent took 6 minutes and covered 21 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 8,005 feet to 1,512 feet.
The final approach to runway 28L at EIDW Dublin Airport was from the east, with a heading of 275.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,292 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown speed of 119 knots and a touchdown rate of -21 feet per minute. However, the touchdown point was 650 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.8 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 12 knots at 270°. The crosswind was negligible, but there was a headwind of 12 knots. The total landing distance was 1,758 meters, which is 67% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.4 meters from the centerline.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 809 nautical miles, taking 137 minutes, and the aircraft used 4,348 kilograms of fuel.
The aircraft in question, an A320-251N, successfully landed at Dublin Airport (EIDW) on runway 28L. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 275.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,292 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was satisfactory, with a threshold speed of 134 knots, which is within the acceptable range.
However, there were some minor discrepancies in the landing. The threshold height at 65 feet agl was above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly higher than desired at the point of touchdown. Additionally, the touchdown point was 650 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight over-shooting of the intended landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 119 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -21 feet per minute (fpm) was perfect, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.8 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the final approach.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 16°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from 270°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 12 knots, which may have contributed to the slight misalignment of the runway touchdown position.
The total landing distance of 1,758 meters was 67% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 9.4 meters from the centerline, indicating a slight deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was satisfactory, with some minor discrepancies that did not significantly impact the safety or efficiency of the operation.
