Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: seven checks where the approach path is 300 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
At the 300 ft gate: no landing flap set, off the centreline, wings not level and speed above the reference speed.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,300 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,300 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 242 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in question was conducted using an OV-10 Bronco aircraft. The aircraft began its journey by taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 4 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. Departure roll from runway 08 at KGGW Glasgow Valley County Airport Wokal Field was successful, with a takeoff distance of 564 meters, which accounted for 37% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 100 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 16°C, with a wind speed of 6 knots at 270°. The crosswind was negligible, while the tailwind was 6 knots. The aircraft then entered a level cruise, starting overhead KGGW Glasgow Valley County Airport Wokal Field, and lasted for 6 minutes, covering a distance of 16 nautical miles.
The flight continued with a series of enroute climbs and descents, with the aircraft ascending to various altitudes and then descending to lower altitudes. One notable climb started 12 miles west of 37S Fort Peck Airport, where the aircraft climbed from 2,282 feet above sea level to 3,405 feet, an increase of 1,123 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
Another notable climb started 30 miles north of 8U1 Sand Springs Strip, where the aircraft climbed from 2,490 feet to 2,967 feet, an increase of 477 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles. The flight also included several level cruises, with the aircraft maintaining a steady altitude and speed for extended periods.
The final approach to runway 23 at 79S Ft Benton was conducted from the north east, with the aircraft heading 242.0° at 1 nautical mile and 248 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with a touchdown distance of 240 meters and a touchdown speed of 83 knots. The touchdown rate was hard at -409 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned from the centreline.
The total landing distance was 527 meters, which accounted for 41% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned from the centreline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, a process that took less than 1 minute and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 189 nautical miles, with a total flight time of 65 minutes. The aircraft used 299 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The OV-10 Bronco aircraft successfully landed at 79S Ft Benton, with a final approach from the north east, heading 242.0° at 1 nm and 248 ft above ground level (agl). The aircraft demonstrated good control and precision during the approach, with a threshold height that met the required standards.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's threshold speed was also satisfactory at 90 kt, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown distance of 240 m was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown speed of 83 kt was also well within the desired parameters. However, the touchdown rate was slightly harder than expected at -409 fpm, which may be a result of the aircraft's weight or the pilot's decision to touch down slightly more aggressively.
Despite the hard touchdown rate, the aircraft's landing performance was generally good, with the touchdown position being slightly misaligned by 7.9 m from the centreline. This misalignment may have been due to the pilot's judgment or the aircraft's response to the crosswind conditions. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 16 °C and a wind speed of 6 kt at 270°, were relatively calm, with a crosswind of 3 kt and a headwind of 5 kt.
The total landing distance of 527 m was 41% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the runway rollout alignment was also slightly misaligned by 7.9 m from the centreline, which may indicate a slight deviation in the pilot's control during the rollout phase. Overall, the OV-10 Bronco aircraft demonstrated good landing performance, with some minor deviations that can be improved upon in future flights.
