Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,777 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 389 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 33 at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah International Airport, also known as WMSA. The aircraft, an FWB EasyJet, accelerated down the runway and lifted off at a speed of 145 knots. The takeoff distance was 430 meters, which is 11% of the runway length.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it encountered local weather conditions of 25 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 0 knots from 352 degrees. The crosswind and headwind components were both zero, making the takeoff and climb phases relatively straightforward.
The enroute climb phase began overhead the airport, where the aircraft climbed from 1,063 feet above sea level to 22,478 feet in just 7 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles. This was followed by a brief level cruise phase, lasting 2 minutes and covering 6 nautical miles, before the aircraft began another climb phase.
The second climb phase took the aircraft from 22,989 feet to 34,086 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 46 nautical miles. This was followed by another level cruise phase, lasting 9 minutes and covering 71 nautical miles, before the aircraft began its final climb phase.
The final climb phase took the aircraft from 34,567 feet to 36,473 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. This was followed by a long level cruise phase, lasting 39 minutes and covering 293 nautical miles, before the aircraft began its descent phase.
The descent phase began 25 miles west of Paloh/Liku, where the aircraft descended from 36,236 feet to 2,376 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 102 nautical miles. This was followed by a brief level cruise phase, lasting 5 minutes and covering 13 nautical miles, before the aircraft began its final approach to runway 25 at Kuching International Airport.
The final approach was made from the east, heading 249.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,287 feet above ground level. The aircraft landed on the runway, touching down at a speed of 113 knots and a distance of 387 meters. The touchdown rate was good at -174 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.2 meters from the centerline.
The total landing distance was 1,153 meters, which is 31% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good, and the aircraft taxied to the parking area in just 4 minutes, covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the flight was completed in 91 minutes, covering a total distance of 568 nautical miles and using -10 kilograms of fuel.
The FWB EasyJet aircraft successfully landed at WBGG Kuching International Airport, achieving a high score of 99.2%. The final approach to runway 25 was conducted from the east, with the aircraft heading 249.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,287 feet above ground level.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway with a speed of 113 knots, which was slightly below the target threshold speed of 120 knots. The touchdown distance of 387 meters was considered good, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -174 feet per minute was also within acceptable limits, demonstrating a safe and stable landing.
However, there was a slight deviation in the runway touchdown position, with the aircraft being 4.2 meters off-centerline. This minor misalignment did not appear to have any significant impact on the overall landing performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 25°C and a wind speed of 0 knots from 352°. This resulted in a zero crosswind and headwind, making the landing even more straightforward.
The total landing distance of 1,153 meters was 31% of the runway length, indicating a relatively short landing roll. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively to bring the aircraft to a stop.
Overall, the FWB EasyJet aircraft performed a safe and efficient landing at WBGG Kuching International Airport, with a high score of 99.2% reflecting the pilot's skill and expertise.
