Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,360 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 667 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at ENBR Bergen Airport, Flesland. This process took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 17, with a takeoff distance of 1,359 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 160 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 7 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 6 knots from a direction of 239 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 5 knots and a headwind of 2 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of Flesland, and continued to climb from an altitude of 1,088 feet above sea level to 31,178 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,090 feet, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 82 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 16 miles east of Vassenden and lasted for 14 minutes, covering a distance of 104 nautical miles. The enroute descent then began 11 miles south of EN05 Fiske Ovre Saeter, and the aircraft descended from 31,139 feet above sea level to 1,514 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,626 feet, in 21 minutes and covering a distance of 67 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 27 at ENVA Trondheim Airport, Værnes, was made from the east, with a heading of 270.0 degrees, at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,465 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 27, which had a length of 2,360 meters. The threshold height was well above the target, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 148 knots.
The touchdown point was 247 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 142 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -203 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 25 knots from a direction of 280 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 25 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,167 meters, which accounted for 49% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was perfect. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 4 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 261 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 66 minutes. The aircraft used 2,838 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at Trondheim Airport, Værnes, with a score of 90.0%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,465 feet above ground level (agl). The landing was executed on runway 27, which has a length of 2,360 meters.
The threshold height at 73 feet agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft was higher than desired when reaching the runway threshold. However, the threshold speed of 148 knots was only slightly above the target, suggesting that the pilots maintained a relatively consistent approach speed.
The touchdown point was located 247 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. The touchdown speed of 142 knots was a bit faster than desired, and the touchdown rate of -203 feet per minute (fpm) was considered fair. Despite these minor deviations, the runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 8°C and a wind speed of 25 knots from a direction of 280°. This resulted in a crosswind of 4 knots and a headwind of 25 knots, which the pilots effectively managed during the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,167 meters was 49% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilots maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and ensured a smooth transition from landing to taxiing. Overall, the landing was successful, with only minor deviations from the desired parameters.
