Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,018 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 310 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
Departure from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol's runway 27 was smooth, with the DA42-VI aircraft taking off in 656 meters, utilizing only 20% of the available runway. The liftoff speed of 90 kt was achieved, and the aircraft began its climb into the local weather conditions, which featured a temperature of 16 °C and a gentle headwind of 1 kt.
The enroute level cruise phase started overhead Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, lasting 18 minutes and covering 39 nm. The aircraft then began its descent, initially from 1,090 ft asl to 629 ft asl, a decrease of 461 ft in 2 minutes, before resuming level flight. This pattern of descent and level flight was repeated, with the aircraft descending from 596 ft asl to 103 ft asl, a decrease of 493 ft in 2 minutes, before climbing from 103 ft asl to 1,180 ft asl, an increase of 1,076 ft in 2 minutes. The final approach to runway 22 at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was initiated from the north east, with the aircraft touching down at a speed of 64 kt and a distance of 308 m, utilizing only 31% of the available runway.
The landing was deemed successful, with a touchdown rate of -88 fpm and excellent runway touchdown alignment. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nm. The total flight distance was 64 nm, with a fuel consumption of -5 kg. The flight duration was 32 minutes, and the aircraft performed well in the local weather conditions, which featured a temperature of 20 °C and a headwind of 3 kt.
The final approach to runway 22 at EHAM Amsterdam Airport Schiphol was executed from the north east, with a heading of 222.0° at 0 nm and 97 ft above ground level. The approach quality was excellent, with a good threshold height and a slight deviation in threshold speed, which was 77 kt, slightly above the target. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, touching down at a distance of 308 m, with a touchdown speed of 64 kt, which was within the acceptable range.
The touchdown characteristics were impressive, with an excellent touchdown rate of -88 fpm, indicating a smooth and controlled landing. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, with the aircraft centered on the runway. The local weather conditions, with a temperature of 20 °C and a headwind of 3 kt, contributed to a stable and predictable approach. The aircraft's performance was further enhanced by the absence of crosswind, which allowed for a precise touchdown.
The rollout phase was equally impressive, with the aircraft maintaining a very good alignment on the runway centerline. The total landing distance of 631 m, which accounted for 31% of the runway length, was well within the acceptable range. Overall, the landing was scored 99.8%, reflecting the high level of proficiency and control demonstrated by the pilot throughout the approach, touchdown, and rollout phases.
