Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 152 m above the runway. The 305 m gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,509 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 392 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A320 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Catania-Fontanarossa Airport, taking 5 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 08, with the aircraft taking off at 57% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,284 meters, and the liftoff speed was 145 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 60 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 6 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile south east of Catania, Sicilia, Italy, and climbed from an altitude of 308 meters above sea level to 11,927 meters above sea level, an increase of 11,619.7 meters, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 103 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started 37 miles north west of Malfa, Sicilia, Italy, and lasted for 45 minutes, covering a distance of 331 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 21 miles west of Livorno, Toscana, Italy, and descended from 11,856 meters above sea level to 1,321 meters above sea level, a decrease of 10,535.5 meters, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 115 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, this time starting 1 mile west of Tromello, Lombardia, Italy, and lasting for 3 minutes, covering a distance of 13 nautical miles. The final enroute descent began 1 mile north of Cerano, Piemonte, Italy, and the aircraft descended from 1,229 meters above sea level to 598 meters above sea level, a decrease of 630.2 meters, in 2 minutes and covering a distance of 7 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35L at Milan Malpensa International Airport was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 349.0 degrees at an altitude of 374.5 meters above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing took place on runway 35L, which had a length of 3,509 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 124 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 393 meters, and the touchdown speed was 119 knots, which was also good. The touchdown rate was good at -0.9 meters per second. However, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 12.8 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 19 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 4 knots at a direction of 30 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,210 meters, which was 34% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.4 meters from the centreline. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area from the runway, taking 3 minutes and covering a distance of less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 576 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 99 minutes. The aircraft used 3,245 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 successfully landed at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport, achieving a high score of 94.7%. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the south, heading 349.0° at an altitude of 374.5 meters above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The pilot maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 124 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 393 meters and a touchdown speed of 119 knots. The touchdown rate was also within acceptable limits at -0.9 meters per second. However, there was a slight issue with the runway touchdown position, as it was misaligned by 12.8 meters from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 19°C and a gentle wind of 4 knots at 30°. The crosswind and headwind components were minimal, at 3 knots each. The total landing distance was 1,210 meters, which is 34% of the runway length. Although the aircraft landed within the acceptable distance, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 12.4 meters from the centerline.
Overall, the landing was successful, and the pilot demonstrated good control and precision. However, there is room for improvement in terms of maintaining a more accurate alignment with the runway centerline during both touchdown and rollout.
