Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,482 m of the approach.
Plan view — the full 1,482 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 419 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 4 nautical miles. The aircraft, a PC-12, then departed from runway 32R at KOMA Eppley Airfield in Omaha, Nebraska. The takeoff distance was 1,078 meters, which accounted for 42% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 102 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 7°C and winds of 2 knots at 159°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the tailwind was 2 knots. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northwest of KOMA Eppley Airfield and involved a significant ascent from 2,171 feet above sea level to 22,532 feet above sea level, an increase of 20,361 feet in just 11 minutes. This climb covered a distance of 26 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 1 mile northwest of Ashland, Nebraska. This phase lasted for 237 minutes and covered a substantial distance of 1,014 nautical miles. The enroute descent began 13 miles northwest of Ludlow Airport in Barstow, California, and involved a descent from 22,999 feet above sea level to 8,141 feet above sea level, a decrease of 14,858 feet in 11 minutes. This descent covered a distance of 40 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26 at L35 Big Bear City was made from the east, with a heading of 270.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,384 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 26 was successful, with a runway length of 1,482 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was well above the target at 92 knots. The touchdown distance was good at 418 meters, but the touchdown speed of 90 knots was slightly fast. The touchdown rate was excellent at -79 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of -1°C and winds of 2 knots at 250°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 2 knots. The total landing distance was 802 meters, which accounted for 54% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. The total flight distance was 1,090 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 268 minutes. The aircraft used 848 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The PC-12 aircraft successfully landed at L35 Big Bear City, achieving a score of 99.5%. The final approach to runway 26 was conducted from the east, heading 270.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,384 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's approach was well-executed, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed that was well above the target at 92 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's performance was satisfactory, with a touchdown distance of 418 meters, which was within acceptable limits. However, the touchdown speed of 90 knots was slightly faster than desired, indicating that the pilot may have been able to flare the aircraft more effectively to achieve a smoother touchdown. The touchdown rate of -79 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, demonstrating the pilot's skill in controlling the aircraft's descent.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained a steady course and had not deviated from the centerline of the runway. The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of -1°C and a wind speed of 2 knots from 250°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 2 knots, which was favorable for the landing.
The total landing distance of 802 meters was 54% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the pilot had maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and had not deviated from the centerline of the runway. Overall, the landing was a success, with the pilot demonstrating excellent skills and control of the aircraft.
