Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,995 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 691 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 10 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A320, then departed from runway 19R at ENGM Oslo Airport, Gardermoen. The takeoff distance was 1,541 meters, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 159 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 8 knots at 139°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots. After departing from Oslo, the aircraft began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile south of the airport. The climb took 15 minutes and covered a distance of 93 nautical miles, during which the aircraft ascended from 1,681 feet above sea level to 27,753 feet above sea level, an increase of 26,072 feet.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 16 miles north of Dalen and lasted for 2 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 14 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 9 miles northeast of Hovden and lasted for 14 minutes, during which the aircraft descended from 27,783 feet above sea level to 1,498 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,284 feet. The descent covered a distance of 73 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 31 at ENHD Haugesund Airport, Karmøy, was made from the southeast, with a heading of 314.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,416 feet above ground level. The landing was made on a runway with a length of 1,995 meters. The threshold height at 120 feet above ground level was excessively over target, but the threshold speed was good at 132 knots. The touchdown point was 97 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was very heavy at -702 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.1 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 9 knots at 290°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. The total landing distance was 901 meters, which accounted for 45% of the runway.
The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 188 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 42 minutes. The aircraft used 1,918 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at Haugesund Airport, Karmøy, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the south east, heading 314.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,416 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on runway 31, which has a length of 1,995 meters.
Upon analysis, it was found that the threshold height at 120 feet agl was excessively over target, indicating that the aircraft may have been slightly high during the approach. However, the threshold speed was satisfactory at 132 knots, suggesting that the pilot maintained a reasonable speed during the final stages of the approach. The touchdown point was located 97 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a deviation from the ideal landing spot.
The touchdown speed of 128 knots was slightly faster than the recommended speed, contributing to a heavy touchdown rate of -702 feet per minute (fpm). This excessive rate may have been due to the aircraft's speed and the pilot's control inputs during the landing. Furthermore, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 11.1 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have drifted off course during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C, with a wind speed of 9 knots from 290°. The crosswind component was 4 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. These conditions may have affected the aircraft's performance and the pilot's ability to maintain a stable approach.
The total landing distance was 901 meters, which is 45% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, but it may have been influenced by the aircraft's speed and the pilot's control inputs. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 14.3 meters from the centerline, indicating that the aircraft may have continued to drift off course after touchdown.
Overall, while the Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed at Haugesund Airport, Karmøy, there were some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. These deviations may have been influenced by the aircraft's speed, the pilot's control inputs, and the local weather conditions.
