Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,883 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,883 m of the 3,112 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 912 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking area to the runway, which took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a British Aerospace 146-100, then departed from runway 26 at ZJSY Sanya Phoenix International Airport. The takeoff distance was 740 meters, which accounted for 22% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 129 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 25°C, a wind speed of 6 knots at 270°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 6 knots.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, which started overhead ZJSY Sanya Phoenix International Airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,082 feet above sea level to 28,185 feet above sea level, an increase of 27,102 feet, in 13 minutes and covering a distance of 52 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 32 miles northwest of Wanning, China, and lasted for 30 minutes, covering a distance of 226 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 36 miles south of Taishan, China, and took the aircraft from an altitude of 28,086 feet above sea level to 196 feet above sea level, a decrease of 27,891 feet, in 19 minutes and covering a distance of 86 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 13 at VHHX Hong Kong International Airport Kai Tak was made from the northwest, heading 134.0° at an altitude of 556 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 13 was successful, with the touchdown point being 459 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 96 knots, which was good, and the touchdown rate was also good at -187 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, a wind speed of 5 knots at 298°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 4 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,765 meters, which accounted for 57% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking area took 5 minutes and covered a distance of 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 369 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 73 minutes. Notably, the aircraft used 0 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The British Aerospace 146-100 aircraft successfully landed at VHHX Hong Kong International Airport Kai Tak, achieving an overall score of 82.2%. The final approach to runway 13 was initiated from the north-west, heading 134.0° at an altitude of 556 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 459 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly off-center. However, the touchdown speed of 96 knots was within the acceptable range, and the touchdown rate of -187 feet per minute was also satisfactory. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 3.6 meters from the centerline, but this did not significantly impact the overall performance of the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 17°C, with a wind speed of 5 knots from a direction of 298°. This resulted in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 4 knots, which did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,765 meters was 57% of the available runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot maintained control of the aircraft during the rollout phase and was able to bring it to a stop safely.
Overall, while the landing was not perfect, with some minor deviations from the target, the pilot demonstrated good control and judgment, and the aircraft was brought to a safe stop.
