Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,044 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 763 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a short taxiing period from the parking to the runway, taking approximately 2 minutes and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-900, then departed from runway 13 at ULMM Murmansk Airport in Murmansk, Russia. The takeoff distance was 1,102 meters, which accounted for 44% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 153 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 2°C temperature and a 4-knot headwind at 150°. The enroute climb started overhead ULMM Murmansk Airport, where the aircraft ascended from 1,307 feet above sea level to 36,804 feet, a total increase of 35,497 feet in 29 minutes, covering 174 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 10 miles northwest of Z11E Vuojarvi Highway Strip in Vuojarvi, Finland, and lasted for 143 minutes, covering 1,118 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 14 miles northeast of BITM Þórsmörk Airport in Þórsmörk, Iceland. The descent from 37,969 feet to 2,553 feet took 11 minutes, covering 79 nautical miles.
Following the descent, the aircraft entered another level cruise phase, this time starting 4 miles southeast of Grindavik in Sudurnes, Iceland. This phase lasted for 3 minutes, covering 10 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 01 at BIKF Keflavik International Airport in Iceland was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 0.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,307 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 01 was successful, with the touchdown point being 346 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was considered good, and the touchdown rate was smooth at -143 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the local weather conditions were -4°C temperature and a 4-knot headwind at 29°.
The total landing distance was 1,226 meters, accounting for 40% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect. After landing, the aircraft took 2 minutes to taxi to the parking, covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,389 nautical miles, taking 196 minutes, and the aircraft used 11,304 kilograms of fuel throughout the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at Keflavik International Airport (BIKF) on runway 01, achieving a high score of 95.3%. The final approach was conducted from the south, with the aircraft heading directly towards the runway at an altitude of 1,307 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway.
The aircraft's approach speed and threshold height were well within the acceptable limits, with a threshold speed of 141 knots. The touchdown point was located 346 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal spot but still within a safe margin. The touchdown speed of 129 knots was also within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The landing rate was particularly impressive, with a smooth touchdown rate of -143 feet per minute (fpm). This suggests that the aircraft's engines were well-managed during the descent, and the pilots were able to maintain a stable and controlled approach. The runway touchdown alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of -4 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 4 knots from a direction of 29 degrees. The crosswind component was minimal, at 2 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots. These conditions would have made the landing relatively straightforward for the pilots.
The total landing distance of 1,226 meters was 40% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. This suggests that the pilots were able to maintain a high level of control and precision during the landing, and that the aircraft's engines were well-managed during the descent. The runway rollout alignment was also perfect, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain its alignment with the runway centerline during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 737-900 at Keflavik International Airport was a success, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 95.3%. The pilots demonstrated a high level of skill and precision during the approach and landing, and the aircraft's engines were well-managed during the descent.
