Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,495 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 354 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Milan Malpensa International Airport, taking 6 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 35L, with a takeoff distance of 1,034 meters, which was 29% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 151 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 8°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots at 77°. The enroute climb started 1 mile south west of Casorate Sempione, Italy, and reached an altitude of 34,542 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,788 feet in 17 minutes, covering a distance of 87 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 2 miles south of Tanay, Switzerland, and lasted for 48 minutes, covering a distance of 315 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 1 mile north of Cayeux-sur-Mer, France, and descended from 34,923 feet to 3,179 feet above sea level, a decrease of 31,744 feet in 16 minutes, covering a distance of 83 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 1 mile west of Handcross, England, and lasted for 22 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent 1 mile north west of Rudgwick, England, and descended from 2,806 feet to 1,480 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,326 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08R at London Gatwick Airport was made from the west, heading 77.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,276 feet above ground level. The landing took place on the runway, with a total landing distance of 849 meters, which was 34% of the runway length. The touchdown speed was 125 knots, and the touchdown rate was fair at -236 feet per minute.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 1°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 75°, with a crosswind of 0 knots and a headwind of 11 knots. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 7.7 meters from the centreline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centreline.
The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 511 nautical miles, taking 117 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,178 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at London Gatwick Airport's runway 08R with a score of 96.8%. The aircraft approached the runway from the west, heading 77.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level. The pilot maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 136 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a touchdown distance of 354 meters, which is within the acceptable range. The touchdown speed was also good at 125 knots. However, the touchdown rate was only fair at -236 feet per minute, indicating that the aircraft could have been brought down to the ground more smoothly.
One notable issue during the landing was the misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was off-center by 7.7 meters. This could have been due to various factors, including wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 1°C and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 849 meters, which is 34% of the runway length. This is a relatively short distance, indicating that the pilot was able to bring the aircraft to a stop quickly and efficiently. However, the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 8.5 meters from the centerline, which could have been a result of the pilot's difficulty in maintaining a straight course during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor issues that could be improved upon. The pilot's ability to maintain a good threshold height and touchdown speed was commendable, but the misalignment of the runway touchdown position and runway rollout alignment were areas for improvement.
