MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 2,578 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,578 m of the 3,654 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 941 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took 6 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Beechcraft Duke, then departed from runway 10 at SLLP El Alto International Airport. The takeoff distance was 923 meters, which accounted for 23% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 83 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of takeoff were characterized by a temperature of 13 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 10 knots at a direction of 110 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of La Paz, Bolivia, and ascending from an altitude of 14,380 feet above sea level to 21,934 feet above sea level, an increase of 7,554 feet in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 30 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise, starting 15 miles south of Chulumani, Bolivia, and lasting 14 minutes, covering a distance of 60 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting 35 miles northwest of Tiquipaya, Bolivia, and descending from 21,907 feet above sea level to 3,213 feet above sea level, a decrease of 18,694 feet in 19 minutes, covering a distance of 70 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise, starting 15 miles southwest of SLCH Chimore Airport, Chimore, Bolivia, and lasting 5 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, starting 5 miles southwest of SLCH Chimore Airport, and descending from 2,532 feet above sea level to 1,004 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,528 feet in 3 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 35 at SLCH Chimore Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 342.0 degrees at an altitude of 244 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 35, which had a length of 3,654 meters. The threshold height at 69 feet above ground level was above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 92 knots.
The touchdown point was 590 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 69 knots and a touchdown rate of -327 feet per minute, which was firm. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.7 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 27 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 1 knot at a direction of 90 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 0 knots.
The total landing distance was 2,562 meters, which accounted for 70% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 16.5 meters from the centerline. The flight then ended with taxiing to the parking area from the runway, which took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 185 nautical miles, taking 63 minutes, and the aircraft used 103 kilograms of fuel.
The Beechcraft Duke aircraft successfully landed at SLCH Chimore Airport, achieving an overall score of 80.6%. The final approach to runway 35 was initiated from the south, heading 342.0° at an altitude of 244 feet above ground level (agl) and 0 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft maintained a steady descent, with the threshold height at 69 feet agl being slightly above the target.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft performed well, with a threshold speed of 92 knots being within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was located 590 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is a relatively long distance. However, the touchdown speed of 69 knots was good, indicating a controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -327 feet per minute (fpm) was firm, suggesting a smooth and stable landing.
Despite the successful touchdown, there were some minor issues with the landing. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 4.7 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path. Additionally, the runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 16.5 meters from the centerline, which could have been caused by a slight drift during the landing roll.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 27°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from 90°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind component, making the landing conditions relatively easy. Overall, the Beechcraft Duke aircraft performed well during the landing, with some minor deviations from the ideal approach and touchdown.
