Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,115 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,115 m of the 4,019 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 517 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 777-300, then departed from runway 25C at Frankfurt Airport (EDDF). The takeoff distance was 1,602 meters, which is 40% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 200 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 8°C and winds of 4 knots at 219°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 3 knots. After departing from Frankfurt, the aircraft began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile south of Kelsterbach, Germany. The climb took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 104 nautical miles, with the aircraft ascending from 1,373 feet above sea level to 33,318 feet.
The enroute level cruise started 1 mile southwest of Heidenheim, Germany, and lasted for 140 minutes, covering a distance of 1,133 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, this time starting 30 miles north of Bafra, Turkey, and ascending from 33,212 feet to 34,954 feet in just 2 minutes, covering a distance of 14 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise resumed 31 miles north of Ondokuzmayis Airport, Turkey, and lasted for 224 minutes, covering a distance of 1,907 nautical miles. The aircraft then began another climb, starting 13 miles northwest of Raiwind, Pakistan, and ascending from 35,157 feet to 37,065 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 15 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise continued, starting 1 mile northeast of Kahna Nau, Pakistan, and lasted for 303 minutes, covering a distance of 1,698 nautical miles. As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its descent, starting 20 miles northwest of Bo Phloi, Thailand. The descent took 28 minutes and covered a distance of 104 nautical miles, with the aircraft descending from 36,982 feet to 1,138 feet.
The final approach to runway 01R at Suvarnabhumi Airport (VTBS) was made from the south, with the aircraft heading 14.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,123 feet above ground level. The landing was successful, with the touchdown point being 107 meters beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was a little fast at 142 knots, but the touchdown rate was fair at -233 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good.
The total landing distance was 2,041 meters, which is 51% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. After landing, the aircraft taxied to the parking, which took 4 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 4,982 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 621 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 77,577 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 777-300 successfully landed on runway 01R at Suvarnabhumi Airport (VTBS) with a high scoring approach, achieving a remarkable 98.8% rating. As the aircraft began its final approach from the south, it maintained a precise heading of 14.0° and was at an altitude of 1,123 ft (342 m) about 4 nautical miles (7 km) away from the runway.
The crew conducted a stable and controlled approach, with a good threshold height being maintained. When assessing the threshold speed at 144 kt (267 km/h), it was deemed satisfactory by the standards of the airfield and the pilot's skill level. Noteworthily, the touchdown point fell 107 m short of the designated touchdown zone, slightly exceeding normal parameters but not excessively off-centre.
The touchdown speed registered at 142 kt (262 km/h) was assessed as being a touch too rapid, suggesting that the crew may have needed to apply more precision to slow down the aircraft before reaching the runway. The descent rate at -233 ft (71 m) per minute was judged fair but not particularly impressive, which could have contributed to the slightly high touchdown speed.
Weather conditions on the day of the landing played a minor role in the flight, as the wind was almost negligible – ranging from 3 kt in both crosswind and headwind. The temperature at the airfield was pleasant at 26 °C, providing no significant issues for the aircraft's performance.
Upon landing, the Boeing 777-300 covered a total distance of 2,041 m (6,700 ft) down the runway, accounting for 51% of the available runway length of 4,019 m. This was somewhat shorter than expected, which is attributed to the aircraft's efficient deceleration during the rollout. The runway rollout alignment was also reported to be very good, demonstrating exceptional piloting skills in maintaining the aircraft's alignment with the runway centreline.
Overall, the landing of this Boeing 777-300 at Suvarnabhumi Airport showcased the exceptional skills of the crew and the aircraft's impressive capabilities, ultimately yielding a successful landing with a notable high-scoring performance.
