Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,684 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,684 m of the 3,100 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 586 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft, an Airbus A321, taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, taking approximately 8 minutes to cover a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 09L, with the aircraft lifting off at a speed of 169 knots after covering 67% of the runway's length.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 28°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 200°. The crosswind was 3 knots, while the tailwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb began approximately 1 mile northwest of Forest Park, Georgia, and saw the aircraft ascend from an altitude of 2,071 feet above sea level to 35,084 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,013 feet, in 14 minutes and covering a distance of 147 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 5 miles northwest of Nicholls, Georgia, and lasted for 45 minutes. During this period, the aircraft covered a distance of 978 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase began 18 miles northeast of Rio San Juan, Dominican Republic, and saw the aircraft descend from an altitude of 35,090 feet above sea level to 1,343 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,747 feet, in 15 minutes and covering a distance of 118 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 08 at Punta Cana International Airport was made from the west, with the aircraft heading at an angle of 74.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,291 feet above ground level. The landing took place on a runway with a length of 3,100 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was also satisfactory at 142 knots.
However, the touchdown point was 173 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed of 135 knots was slightly faster than desired. The touchdown rate was fair at -231 feet per minute. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 26°C temperature and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 90°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,607 meters, which accounted for 52% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 5 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,254 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 88 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 7,813 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 aircraft successfully landed at MDPC Punta Cana International Airport, achieving a score of 94.9%. The final approach to runway 08 was initiated from the west, with a heading of 74.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,291 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 142 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 173 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the recommended area. The touchdown speed of 135 knots was a bit faster than ideal, and the touchdown rate of -231 feet per minute was considered fair. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 7.4 meters from the centerline, which may have contributed to the slightly off-center touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 26°C and a gentle wind of 3 knots at 90°. The crosswind component was minimal at 1 knot, while the headwind component was 3 knots, which helped to stabilize the aircraft during the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,607 meters was 52% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was excellent, indicating that the pilot maintained good control of the aircraft during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown point and speed. However, the pilot's skills and the aircraft's performance were sufficient to ensure a safe and controlled landing.
