Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,539 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,539 m of the 2,914 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 554 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Nantes Atlantique Airport, a process that took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 03, with the aircraft lifting off after a takeoff distance of 1,130 meters, which was 42% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 144 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 6°C temperature and a wind speed of 4 knots at 309 degrees. The crosswind was 4 knots, while the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead Nantes Atlantique Airport, with the aircraft ascending from 1,117 feet above sea level to 32,609 feet above sea level, an increase of 31,492 feet in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 106 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began overhead Cognac-Châteaubernard Air Base in France, lasting 22 minutes and covering 180 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 1 mile east of Mirepoix, France, descending from 32,622 feet above sea level to 5,854 feet above sea level, a decrease of 26,768 feet in 21 minutes and covering 105 nautical miles.
The aircraft continued its journey with multiple enroute level cruises and descents, including a brief 2-minute cruise over Vilafranca del Penedes in Spain, a 2-minute descent over Cubelles, and a 4-minute cruise over Coma-ruga. The final descent started 1 mile south east of Sitges, Spain, with the aircraft descending from 2,914 feet above sea level to 1,297 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,618 feet in 3 minutes and covering 8 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 06L at Barcelona-El Prat Airport was made from the south west, with the aircraft heading 65.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,278 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 06L, which was 2,914 meters long, with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 129 knots. The touchdown point was 127 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 120 knots and a touchdown rate of -236 feet per minute.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.5 meters from the centreline, but the runway rollout alignment was very good. The total landing distance was 1,447 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 7°C temperature and a wind speed of 12 knots at 339 degrees, with a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
After landing, the aircraft taxiied to the parking area, a process that took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 436 nautical miles, taking 87 minutes and using 3,002 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed at LEBL Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat Airport, achieving a score of 96.5%. The final approach to runway 06L was conducted from the southwest, heading 65.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,278 feet above ground level.
The aircraft touched down on the runway with a good threshold height and a threshold speed of 129 knots, indicating a well-executed landing. However, the touchdown point was slightly beyond the designated touchdown zone, located 127 meters past the threshold. The touchdown speed of 120 knots was also within the acceptable range, suggesting a controlled descent.
Despite the good touchdown speed, the touchdown rate of -236 feet per minute was only fair, indicating a slightly steeper descent than desired. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to a slight deviation in the approach path.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 7°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from 339°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 1 knot, which may have affected the aircraft's approach and landing.
The total landing distance of 1,447 meters was 50% of the available runway length, indicating a relatively short landing distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was well-controlled during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was successful, but there were some minor deviations from the ideal approach and landing parameters. However, the aircraft's performance and the pilot's skills were sufficient to ensure a safe and controlled landing.
