Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,290 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 830 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 23 at RPVK Kalibo International Airport, a Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft taking to the skies. The takeoff distance covered 75% of the runway, with a length of 1,642 meters. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 160 knots, and the local weather conditions at the time were characterized by a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 13 knots from a direction of 70 degrees.
As the aircraft climbed away from the airport, it began its enroute climb, starting approximately one mile southwest of the airport. The climb took the aircraft from an altitude of 1,033 feet above sea level to 15,423 feet, an increase of 14,390 feet in just six minutes. This climb phase covered a distance of 23 nautical miles. The aircraft then transitioned into a level cruise, which lasted for nine minutes and covered a distance of 62 nautical miles. This phase of the flight took place approximately two miles north of Dumalag, in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines.
As the aircraft approached its destination, it began its enroute descent, starting seven miles west of Calatrava. The descent took the aircraft from an altitude of 15,483 feet to 1,312 feet, a decrease of 14,171 feet in 15 minutes. This phase of the flight covered a distance of 40 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 04 at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport, approaching from the southwest at a heading of 42.0 degrees and at an altitude of 1,276 feet above ground level.
The landing was executed smoothly, with the aircraft touching down on the runway at a speed of 124 knots. The touchdown point was 407 meters beyond the touchdown zone, but the touchdown rate was excellent at -86 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, and the runway rollout alignment was also spot on. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 30 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 12 knots from a direction of 19 degrees.
The total landing distance covered 43% of the runway, with a length of 1,408 meters. The aircraft then taxied to the parking area, taking approximately seven minutes to cover a distance of less than one nautical mile. The total flight distance was 130 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 40 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 1,690 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-MAX8 aircraft successfully landed at RPVM Mactan Cebu International Airport, showcasing a high level of proficiency in its flight operations. The final approach to runway 04 from the southwest direction, heading 42.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,276 feet above ground level (agl), demonstrated a precise and controlled descent.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down on the runway at a speed of 124 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was 407 meters beyond the touchdown zone, indicating a slight overrun but still within the safe limits. The touchdown rate of -86 feet per minute (fpm) was excellent, signifying a smooth and controlled touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 30°C and wind speeds of 12 knots at 19°. The crosswind component was minimal at 5 knots, while the headwind component was 11 knots, which helped to reduce the landing distance. The runway length of 3,290 meters was sufficient to accommodate the aircraft's landing distance of 1,408 meters, which was only 43% of the available runway.
The runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown. Similarly, the runway rollout alignment was also perfect, demonstrating a smooth and controlled rollout after touchdown. Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, showcasing the skills and expertise of the flight crew.
