MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,432 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,432 ft of the 8,361 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 3,917 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with taxiing from the parking area to the runway, which took approximately 5 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The aircraft, a P180 FFX, then departed from runway 06 at Vnukovo International Airport (UUWW), located in Moscow, Russia. The takeoff distance was 2,852 feet, which is 25% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 119 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 20°F and a wind speed of 7 knots from a direction of 340°. This resulted in a crosswind of 7 knots and a headwind of 0 knots. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, which started overhead Vnukovo and continued to an altitude of 34,034 feet above sea level (asl). This climb, which covered a distance of 69 nautical miles, took 20 minutes and resulted in an increase of 32,814 feet in altitude.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 2 miles east of Pokrov Airport (UPOR) and lasted for 44 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 266 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 22 miles southeast of Atyashevo and continued to an altitude of 9,300 feet asl. This descent, which covered a distance of 84 nautical miles, took 13 minutes and resulted in a decrease of 24,961 feet in altitude.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 10 miles south of Sengiley and lasted for 8 minutes. During this phase, the aircraft covered a distance of 40 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started 11 miles northwest of Kurumoch International Airport (UWWW) and continued to an altitude of 1,546 feet asl. This descent, which covered a distance of 13 nautical miles, took 7 minutes and resulted in a decrease of 6,216 feet in altitude.
The final approach to runway 23 at Kurumoch International Airport was made from the northeast, with a heading of 241.0° and an altitude of 1,115 feet above ground level (agl). However, the aircraft was required to perform a go-around at an altitude of 187 feet agl. The aircraft then landed on runway 23, which has a length of 8,361 feet. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 126 knots.
The touchdown point was 2,505 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 94 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was smooth at -114 feet per minute. However, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 21 feet from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 27°F and a wind speed of 19 knots from a direction of 199°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 14 knots.
The total landing distance was 5,120 feet, which is 61% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing from the runway to the parking area took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 487 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 125 minutes. The aircraft used 1,432 pounds of fuel during the flight.
The aircraft, identified as FFX P180 03 01, successfully landed at UWWW Kurumoch International Airport on runway 23. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 241.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,115 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft's performance during the landing was satisfactory, with a score of 90.2%.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down at a speed of 94 knots, which was within the acceptable range. The touchdown rate was also smooth, at -114 feet per minute (fpm). However, the touchdown point was slightly beyond the designated touchdown zone, at 2,505 feet. This deviation from the centerline was also noted, with the aircraft being 21 feet off-center.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 27°F and wind speeds of 19 knots from 199°. This resulted in a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 14 knots. Despite these conditions, the aircraft's landing performance was satisfactory.
The total landing distance was 5,120 feet, which accounted for 61% of the runway length. This indicates that the aircraft had sufficient runway remaining for safe deceleration. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, suggesting that the aircraft's brakes were applied smoothly and effectively.
Overall, the landing of FFX P180 03 01 at UWWW Kurumoch International Airport was successful, with the aircraft demonstrating good control and stability throughout the approach and landing phases. However, there were some minor deviations from the ideal touchdown point and centerline alignment, which may be addressed in future training or operations.
