Flight Score
Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 2,176 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 2,176 m of the 3,195 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 780 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft then departed from runway 08R at Vancouver International Airport (CYVR), with a takeoff distance of 1,634 meters, which was 50% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 168 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions of 15°C temperature and a wind speed of 11 knots at 210°. The crosswind was 10 knots, and the tailwind was 4 knots. The aircraft climbed from an initial altitude of 1,013 feet above sea level to 39,205 feet above sea level, an increase of 38,193 feet, in 17 minutes and covering a distance of 124 nautical miles. This climb started overhead the Vancouver International Seaplane Base (CAM9).
After reaching the cruising altitude, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 16 miles west of Oliver, British Columbia. This phase lasted for 184 minutes and covered a distance of 1,589 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 7 miles west of Hay Island Airstrip (CYOQ) in Ontario. The descent from 37,084 feet above sea level to 4,042 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,042 feet, took 19 minutes and covered a distance of 97 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 5 miles north of Bellshill (CMB5) in Ontario. This phase lasted for only 3 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent, which started overhead Milton, Ontario. The descent from 3,107 feet above sea level to 1,855 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,251 feet, took 4 minutes and covered a distance of 10 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 05 at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) was made from the southwest, heading 46.0°, at an altitude of 1,302 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 05, which had a length of 3,195 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also good at 137 knots.
The touchdown point was 363 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was good. However, the touchdown rate was fair at -266 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.5 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were -4°C temperature and a wind speed of 12 knots at 320°, with a crosswind of 12 knots and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 2,094 meters, which was 66% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. After landing, the aircraft took 8 minutes to taxi to the parking from the runway, covering a distance of 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 1,837 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 248 minutes. The aircraft used 25,051 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Air Canada aircraft successfully landed at Toronto Lester B. Pearson International Airport (CYYZ) on runway 05, achieving a score of 92.1%. The final approach was initiated from the southwest, heading 46.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,302 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 137 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 363 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly beyond the ideal position. However, the touchdown speed of 129 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -266 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have maintained a more gradual descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 6.5 meters from the centerline, which may have been due to factors such as wind or pilot error. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -4°C and a wind speed of 12 knots from 320°. The crosswind component was 12 knots, while the headwind component was only 1 knot.
The total landing distance of 2,094 meters was 66% of the runway length, which is a relatively short distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft maintained a stable and controlled path after touchdown. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft was able to come to a stop within a reasonable distance from the runway threshold.
