MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Keep the approach speed on target
Every knot above Vref is stored kinetic energy, and energy stored at the threshold must be dissipated in ground effect before the aeroplane will stop flying. Because kinetic energy scales with the square of speed, the excess you must dissipate grows fast. At a 45-knot approach, five knots hot is over a tenth more speed and roughly a quarter more energy to get rid of in ground effect. This is why the fix is never in the flare. It was decided three miles earlier, on final, at the airspeed indicator.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 11,467 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,754 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a departure roll from runway 18 at SVCN Canaima Airport, where the Vision Jet took off with a takeoff distance of 2,125 feet, which was 31% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 90 knots, and the local weather conditions were characterized by a temperature of 79°F and winds of 2 knots at 44°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot.
As the aircraft climbed out of Canaima Airport, it began its enroute climb, reaching an altitude of 22,741 feet above sea level (asl) from an initial altitude of 2,260 feet asl. This climb was achieved in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 78 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off and entered a cruise phase, which lasted for 58 minutes and covered a distance of 274 nautical miles.
The first descent phase began 2 miles southwest of SVDW Ciudad Piar Airport, where the aircraft descended from 22,856 feet asl to 21,933 feet asl, a decrease of 923 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 7 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again and entered another cruise phase, which lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The second descent phase began 13 miles northeast of Caraballeda, where the aircraft descended from 21,826 feet asl to 3,987 feet asl, a decrease of 17,839 feet in 12 minutes, covering a distance of 43 nautical miles. The aircraft then leveled off again and entered another brief cruise phase, which lasted for 3 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The final descent phase began 11 miles west of Catia La Mar, where the aircraft descended from 3,983 feet asl to 1,218 feet asl, a decrease of 2,766 feet in 4 minutes, covering a distance of 10 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final approach to runway 10 at SVMI Simón Bolívar International Airport, which was located to the west.
The final approach was characterized by a heading of 92.0° at 3 nautical miles and 1,042 feet above ground level (agl). However, the touchdown point was 1,329 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 79 knots, which was fast. The touchdown rate was fair at -223 feet per minute (fpm), and the runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 92 feet from the centreline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 59°F and winds of 1 knot at 270°, resulting in a crosswind of 0 knots and a tailwind of 1 knot. The total landing distance was 3,242 feet, which was 28% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 90 feet from the centreline.
In total, the flight covered a distance of 426 nautical miles, taking 104 minutes, and used 614 pounds of fuel.
The Vision Jet aircraft has successfully landed at SVMI Simón Bolívar International Airport, but the landing was not without its issues. The final approach to runway 10 from the west was initiated at a height of 1,042 feet above ground level (agl) and a distance of 3 nautical miles from the runway. The aircraft was heading 92.0 degrees, which is slightly off from the ideal heading for a runway 10 approach.
Upon landing, the aircraft touched down 1,329 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is a significant deviation from the ideal touchdown point. The touchdown speed of 79 knots was also higher than the recommended speed, indicating that the pilot may have been unable to slow the aircraft down sufficiently before touchdown. The touchdown rate of -223 feet per minute was fair, but not ideal.
One of the most notable issues with this landing was the significant misalignment of the runway touchdown position, which was off by 92 feet from the centreline. This suggests that the pilot may have been struggling to maintain a stable approach and may have been affected by crosswinds or other external factors. The runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 90 feet from the centreline, which is a concern for safety.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 59 degrees Fahrenheit and a wind speed of 1 knot from 270 degrees. There was no significant crosswind or tailwind, which suggests that the pilot may have been able to maintain a stable approach if they had been able to manage the aircraft's speed and alignment more effectively.
Overall, while the Vision Jet aircraft was able to land safely, the landing was not without its issues. The pilot will need to work on improving their approach and touchdown skills to ensure a more stable and controlled landing.
