Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 1,635 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 609 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway, a process that took 7 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The Airbus A320 then departed from runway 13R at KSAT San Antonio International Airport, with a takeoff distance of 1,443 meters, which accounted for 56% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 141 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 12 knots blowing from the east. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 8 knots. As the aircraft took off, it began its enroute climb, which started 1 mile southeast of KSAT San Antonio International Airport. The climb was from an initial altitude of 1,773 feet above sea level to a maximum altitude of 38,454 feet, an increase of 36,681 feet in 20 minutes, covering a distance of 127 nautical miles.
Following the enroute climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 10 miles south of Cranfills Gap, Texas. This phase lasted for 83 minutes, during which the aircraft covered a distance of 615 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase started 3 miles north of 25IL Holzwarth Flying Service Airport in Virden, Illinois, and lasted for 33 minutes. The aircraft descended from an altitude of 38,221 feet to 1,886 feet, a decrease of 36,335 feet, covering a distance of 165 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 13C at KMDW Chicago Midway International Airport was made from the northwest, with a heading of 134.0 degrees. The aircraft was at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,268 feet above ground level when it began its descent. The landing was made on runway 13C, which had a length of 1,635 meters. The threshold height at 88 feet above ground level was significantly above the target, but the threshold speed was good at 133 knots.
The touchdown point was 189 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was a little fast at 128 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -252 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.3 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 31 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 9 knots blowing from the west. The crosswind component was 9 knots, while the headwind component was 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,180 meters, which accounted for 72% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline. The taxiing to the parking area from the runway took 1 minute and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 917 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 146 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 6,068 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A320 aircraft successfully landed on runway 13C at KMDW Chicago Midway International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The aircraft was approaching the runway from the northwest, heading 134.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,268 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was conducted with a speed of 133 kt, which was considered good.
However, the threshold height at 88 ft agl was significantly above the target, indicating that the aircraft may have been higher than desired at the point of touchdown. The touchdown point was 189 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which suggests that the aircraft may have been slightly long on the landing. The touchdown speed of 128 kt was also a little fast, and the touchdown rate of -252 fpm was fair but not ideal.
In terms of alignment, the runway touchdown position was misaligned by 8.3 meters from the centerline, and the runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 7.9 meters from the centerline. This suggests that the aircraft may have been slightly off-center during the landing roll.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were relatively calm, with a temperature of 31°C and a wind speed of 9 kt at 220°. The crosswind component was 9 kt, while the headwind component was 1 kt. The total landing distance was 1,180 meters, which was 72% of the runway length.
Overall, while the landing was successful, there were some notable deviations from the ideal parameters. The aircraft's speed and alignment during the landing roll were not ideal, and the threshold height was above target. However, the pilot's ability to maintain control and bring the aircraft to a safe stop was demonstrated by the successful completion of the landing.
