Maintain the centreline
A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,925 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 540 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A319 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Punta Cana International Airport, taking approximately 6 minutes and covering a distance of 2 nautical miles. Departure roll took place on runway 08, with a takeoff distance of 1,652 meters, which accounted for 53% of the runway. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 159 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 32°C temperature and winds of 16 knots at 91°. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the headwind was 15 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile north-east of Punta Cana International Airport, where the aircraft ascended from 1,057 feet above sea level to 37,356 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,299 feet in 23 minutes, covering a distance of 121 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 111 miles north-east of Samana, Dominican Republic, and lasted for 194 minutes, covering a distance of 1,420 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent approximately 1 mile south of Ticonderoga, New York, where it descended from 36,591 feet above sea level to 4,233 feet above sea level, a decrease of 32,358 feet in 18 minutes, covering a distance of 100 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, this time starting 1 mile south-east of CVP2 Île Sainte-Hélène Water Airport, Montréal, Quebec, Canada, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles. The enroute descent began approximately 1 mile south of Boucherville, Quebec, Canada, where the aircraft descended from 3,798 feet above sea level to 3,150 feet above sea level, a decrease of 648 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another enroute level cruise, starting 1 mile south-east of Montreal-Est, Quebec, Canada, and lasting for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 4 nautical miles. The enroute descent began overhead Saint-Leonard, Quebec, Canada, where the aircraft descended from 2,817 feet above sea level to 1,409 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,408 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 24L at CYUL Montreal / Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport took place from the north-east, heading 223.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,298 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 24L took place with a runway length of 2,925 meters, and the threshold height was good. The threshold speed was slightly above the target at 131 knots.
The touchdown point was 117 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 125 knots, which was a little fast. The touchdown rate was hard at -434 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was significantly misaligned by 16.1 meters from the centreline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 23°C temperature and winds of 11 knots at 220°, with a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 11 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,370 meters, accounting for 47% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was misaligned by 15.6 meters from the centreline. Taxiing to the parking area from the runway took approximately 3 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,667 nautical miles, taking 254 minutes, and the aircraft used 9,295 kilograms
The Airbus A319 aircraft successfully landed on runway 24L at CYUL Montreal / Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport, but with some notable deviations from the ideal landing parameters. The final approach was initiated from the north east, heading 223.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,298 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, but the touchdown point was 117 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, indicating a slight overextension.
The touchdown speed of 125 knots was slightly above the target speed, which could have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -434 feet per minute (fpm). The runway touchdown position was also significantly misaligned by 16.1 meters from the centerline, which could have been due to a combination of factors including wind, pilot error, or aircraft performance.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 23°C and a headwind of 11 knots at 220°. The crosswind was minimal at 1 knot, which reduced the impact of wind on the landing. However, the runway rollout alignment was also misaligned by 15.6 meters from the centerline, indicating a continued deviation from the ideal landing parameters.
The total landing distance of 1,370 meters was 47% of the available runway length, which is within the acceptable range. However, the hard touchdown rate and misaligned touchdown and rollout positions suggest that the pilots may have been working to compensate for some underlying issue, such as a strong crosswind or a performance deviation. Overall, the landing was successful, but with some notable deviations from the ideal parameters.
