Hold the approach angle
Preparing for a stable approach will give you time to decide on whether to attempt the landing or going around. Too much altitude with a high sink rate will result in carrying too much speed onto the runway. Configuring flaps and the gear late also won't help the speed decay.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with five checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,865 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,865 m of the 2,121 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 682 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 777F taxied to runway 36L at KMEM Memphis International Airport and commenced the take-off roll, using 1,668 m of runway (59 % of the available length). Liftoff was achieved at 175 kt in conditions of 22 °C temperature, a 4 kt headwind from 330°, a 2 kt cross-wind component and a 4 kt headwind component.
The first en-route climb began one mile north-west of KMEM, climbing from 1,469 ft asl to 35,747 ft asl, an altitude gain of 34,278 ft. The climb was completed in 16 minutes while covering 118 nm.
A level cruise segment started one mile south of Sweet Home, Arkansas and lasted 29 minutes, during which the aircraft flew 251 nm at cruise altitude.
The next climb segment originated one mile north of KGLE Gainesville Municipal Airport, Texas, rising from 35,748 ft asl to 37,578 ft asl, a gain of 1,830 ft. This climb took 3 minutes and spanned 30 nm.
Subsequent cruise began three miles south of 0F2 Bowie Muni, Texas and continued for 154 minutes, covering 1,271 nm at the cruise level.
A further climb started at latitude 25.9076943, longitude -120.5580685, increasing altitude from 38,316 ft asl to 39,731 ft asl, a rise of 1,415 ft. The aircraft completed this climb in 2 minutes over a distance of 13 nm.
The following cruise segment commenced at latitude 25.8635315, longitude -120.8204579 and lasted 633 minutes, during which 1,938 nm were flown at the high-altitude cruise level.
Descent began 36 nm east of Hana, Hawaii, with the aircraft descending from 39,743 ft asl to 3,902 ft asl, a loss of 35,840 ft. The descent was performed in 20 minutes while covering 132 nm.
A short cruise followed 15 nm south of East Honolulu, lasting 8 minutes and covering 31 nm.
The next descent started three miles south of Ocean Pointe, Hawaii, dropping from 2,228 ft asl to 1,402 ft asl, a decrease of 826 ft in 2 minutes over 5 nm.
During final approach to runway 04L at PHNL Daniel K Inouye International Airport, the aircraft approached from the south-west on a heading of 57.0° at 4 nm and 1,383 ft agl. Local weather reported 26 °C temperature, a 13 kt wind from 60°, a 2 kt cross-wind and a 13 kt headwind.
Landing on runway 04L was executed with a runway length of 2,121 m; the threshold speed was recorded at 166 kt. Touchdown occurred 277 m beyond the touchdown zone at a speed of 161 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 228 fpm and very good runway-touchdown alignment. The threshold height was noted as good.
Rollout continued for a total landing distance of 1,796 m, representing 85 % of the runway, and the rollout alignment was very good.
In total, the flight covered 3,795 nm, required 475 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 54,900 kg of fuel.
The aircraft entered the final approach to runway 16 at Spaulding from the north, tracking a heading of 181.0 ° at 1 nm distance and 316 ft AGL. Local weather was 5 °C with wind 2 kt from 181 °, crosswind 0 kt and headwind 2 kt.
The threshold height was good and the aircraft crossed the threshold at a speed of 40 kt, noted as a little below the target.
Touchdown occurred 123 m down the runway at a speed of 34 kt, both described as good, with a smooth vertical rate of minus 101 fpm. The touchdown point was offset 4.9 m from the centreline.
The total landing distance measured 178 m, representing 13 % of the 1,401 m runway, and the rollout alignment was very good.
Fine-tuning the approach speed to meet the target will eliminate the slight undershoot noted at threshold. Maintaining precise centreline tracking will reduce the 4.9 m offset observed at touchdown. Overall performance earned a 96.5 % score.
