Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 8,899 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,159 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the Airbus A321 taxiing from the parking area to the runway at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport, taking 11 minutes and covering a distance of 3 nautical miles. The departure roll took place on runway 26L, with a takeoff distance of 5,455 feet, which was 55% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 156 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to its cruising altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of a temperature of 56°F and a wind speed of 2 knots at 330°. The crosswind was 2 knots, and the headwind was 1 knot. The enroute climb started overhead College Park, Georgia, and the aircraft ascended from 2,069 feet above sea level to 34,442 feet above sea level, an increase of 32,373 feet in 21 minutes, covering a distance of 121 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 3 miles southwest of Kimberly, Alabama, and lasted for 38 minutes, covering a distance of 1,000 nautical miles. The aircraft then started another enroute climb 5 miles north of Highland Meadows, New Mexico, and ascended from 34,428 feet above sea level to 35,217 feet above sea level, an increase of 790 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 35 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 5 miles south of San Rafael, New Mexico, and the aircraft descended from 35,202 feet above sea level to 34,351 feet above sea level, a decrease of 850 feet in 2 minutes, covering a distance of 12 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 14 miles southwest of San Rafael, New Mexico, and lasted for 65 minutes, covering a distance of 448 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 3 miles south of Mentone, California, and the aircraft descended from 33,419 feet above sea level to 15,380 feet above sea level, a decrease of 18,039 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 26 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 1 mile northeast of San Antonio Heights, California, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 9 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 3 miles northwest of Rialto Mun/Miro Rialto, California, and the aircraft descended from 14,728 feet above sea level to 7,731 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,997 feet in 7 minutes, covering a distance of 21 nautical miles. The enroute level cruise then began 1 mile south of Diamond Bar, California, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The enroute descent started 1 mile east of Hacienda Heights, California, and the aircraft descended from 7,715 feet above sea level to 1,411 feet above sea level, a decrease of 6,304 feet in 6 minutes, covering a distance of 19 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 24R at Los Angeles International Airport began from the east, heading 263.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,274 feet above ground level.
The aircraft landed on runway 24R, which was 8,899 feet long, with a good threshold height. The threshold speed was good at 139 knots. The touchdown point was 794 feet beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 129 knots, which was good. The touchdown rate was fair at -204 feet per minute. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 17 feet from the centerline.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were a temperature of 61°F and a wind speed of 0 knots at
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at Los Angeles International Airport (KLAX) on runway 24R, achieving a score of 96.2%. The aircraft approached the runway from the east, heading 263.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,274 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with good threshold height, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 139 knots.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft landed 794 feet beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly outside the designated area. However, the touchdown speed of 129 knots was within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent. The touchdown rate of -204 feet per minute (fpm) was fair, suggesting that the aircraft could have maintained a more gradual descent.
The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 17 feet from the centerline, which may have been due to a minor deviation in the aircraft's alignment during the final approach. Despite this, the runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft maintained its stability and control after touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 61°F and no wind. The crosswind and headwind components were both zero, which contributed to a smooth and stable approach. The total landing distance of 4,589 feet was 52% of the runway length, which is within the acceptable range. Overall, the landing was successful, and the aircraft demonstrated good control and stability throughout the approach and touchdown phases.
