Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,187 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 345 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 13 minutes and covered a distance of 3 nautical miles. The aircraft, an Airbus A319, then departed from runway 35R at LIMC Milan Malpensa International Airport. The takeoff distance was 1,740 meters, which accounted for 58% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 161 knots.
As the aircraft took to the skies, it encountered local weather conditions of 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots at 10 degrees. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 3 knots. The enroute climb started approximately 1 mile south west of Casorate Sempione, Lombardia, Italy, and reached an altitude of 35,531 feet above sea level, an increase of 33,764 feet in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 86 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 4 miles south of Pralognan-la-Vanoise, Auvergne-Rhone-Alpes, France. This phase lasted for 90 minutes and covered a distance of 567 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 3 miles south west of Soto y Amio, Castilla y Leon, Spain. The descent from 35,646 feet to 19,939 feet above sea level, a decrease of 15,707 feet, took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 51 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 1 mile south east of Becerrea, Galicia, Spain, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering a distance of 11 nautical miles. The descent phase resumed, starting 4 miles north west of Lancara, Galicia, Spain. The aircraft descended from 19,273 feet to 1,563 feet above sea level, a decrease of 17,710 feet, in 16 minutes and covering a distance of 49 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 21 at LECO A Coruña Airport was made from the north east, heading 211.0 degrees at 4 nautical miles and 1,252 feet above ground level. The landing on runway 21 was successful, with a touchdown distance of 347 meters. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target at 137 knots, while the touchdown rate was hard at -492 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was perfect.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 11 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 8 knots at 270 degrees. The crosswind was 7 knots, while the headwind was 4 knots. The total landing distance was 1,300 meters, accounting for 59% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 773 nautical miles, taking 153 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,517 kilograms of fuel.
The Airbus A319 successfully landed at LECO A Coruña Airport, achieving a score of 95.4%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 211.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,252 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 21, which has a length of 2,187 meters.
The threshold height was satisfactory, but the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 137 knots. However, the touchdown distance of 347 meters was considered good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain control and stability during the landing. The touchdown speed of 126 knots was a little fast, which may have contributed to the hard touchdown rate of -492 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, demonstrating the pilot's skill and attention to detail.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were characterized by a temperature of 11°C and a wind speed of 8 knots from 270°. The crosswind component was 7 knots, while the headwind component was 4 knots. These conditions presented a moderate challenge for the pilot, but the aircraft was able to handle them successfully.
The total landing distance of 1,300 meters was 59% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the pilot was able to maintain control and stability during the rollout phase of the landing. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft touching down safely and coming to a stop without incident.
