Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,389 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 276 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight in the DA40-NG began with a departure roll on runway 11 at LTAD Etimesgut AB. The takeoff distance was 291 meters, which represented 12% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 80 knots. The local weather at the time of departure was 16°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot coming from 269°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The enroute climb started 1 mile southwest of Batikent (Ankara, Turkey). The aircraft climbed from 3,545 feet above sea level to 5,323 feet above sea level, an increase of 1,778 feet in 3 minutes and covering a distance of 5 nautical miles.
After the climb, the aircraft entered an enroute level cruise 2 miles northwest of Ankara (Ankara, Turkey). This cruise lasted 3 minutes and covered 4 nautical miles.
The landing occurred on runway 03R at LTAC Esenboga, which has a runway length of 3,389 meters. The height at the threshold was 28 feet above ground level, and the speed at the threshold was 70 knots. The touchdown occurred 275 meters from the threshold, with a touchdown speed of 59 knots and a vertical speed indicator (VSI) reading of -156 feet per minute. The local weather at the time of landing was 15°C, with a wind speed of 1 knot coming from 270°, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a tailwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 998 meters, representing 29% of the runway length. Taxiing from the runway to the parking area took 6 minutes and covered less than 1 nautical mile.
Overall, the total flight distance was 20 nautical miles, which took 28 minutes to complete and consumed 4 kilograms of fuel.
First of all, congratulations on achieving an impressive aircraft landing score of 96.8%! Your performance during the Approach Phase was particularly commendable as you demonstrated excellent glideslope alignment and maintained your speed slightly below target. This shows a high level of precision and skill in controlling the aircraft during the critical phase of descent towards the runway.
Moving on to the Landing Phase, your technique was equally impressive. Your management of threshold height and the smoothness of the landing flare contributed to a very good overall landing performance. These factors are key in ensuring a safe and comfortable touchdown for both passengers and the aircraft itself.
In the Touchdown Phase, while your touchdown rate was good, there were areas for improvement in terms of speed control. Keeping the speed slightly above target suggests a need for more precise throttle and control adjustments in order to achieve the desired touchdown parameters. However, the fact that you were able to touch down within the designated touchdown zone and with a runway touchdown position just 1.7m from the centerline is still highly commendable.
Lastly, during the Rollout Phase, maintaining runway alignment within 5.2m from the centerline is indicative of effective steering and control during the rollout process. This phase is crucial for bringing the aircraft to a complete stop and it appears that you were able to execute this part of the landing with good accuracy.
Overall, your landing performance demonstrates a high level of skill and competency as a pilot. By focusing on refining your speed control during the Touchdown Phase and further improving runway alignment during the Rollout Phase, you can continue to enhance your overall landing proficiency. Keep up the great work and continue striving for excellence in every aspect of your flying skills.
