MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Shorten the long landing
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,635 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,635 m of the 2,738 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,276 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 16 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Cessna CJ4 Citation, then departed from runway 07 at KGNV Gainesville Regional Airport. The takeoff distance was 451 meters, which accounted for 36% of the runway. The liftoff speed was 130 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 8 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 12 knots at a direction of 20 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 8 knots and a headwind of 9 knots. The aircraft began its enroute climb 1 mile northeast of KGNV Gainesville Regional Airport, rising from an altitude of 1,138 feet above sea level to 37,286 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,148 feet, in 12 minutes and covering a distance of 56 nautical miles.
Following the initial climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles south of Fargo, Georgia, and lasted for 16 minutes, covering a distance of 88 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent 5 miles south of Glenwood, Georgia, descending from 36,936 feet above sea level to 7,549 feet above sea level, a decrease of 29,387 feet, in 18 minutes and covering a distance of 98 nautical miles.
The aircraft entered another level cruise phase 1 mile north of Jackson, Georgia, which lasted for 2 minutes and covered a distance of 8 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase started 3 miles east of 63GA Zips Airport Mc Donough, Georgia, where the aircraft descended from 7,413 feet above sea level to 4,448 feet above sea level, a decrease of 2,964 feet, in 4 minutes and covering a distance of 13 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase 2 miles west of Conyers, Georgia, which lasted for 4 minutes and covered a distance of 9 nautical miles. The enroute descent phase started 1 mile southeast of Panthersville, Georgia, where the aircraft descended from 3,717 feet above sea level to 2,540 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,177 feet, in 3 minutes and covering a distance of 6 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 26R at KATL Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport was made from the east, heading 268.0 degrees at 3 nautical miles and 1,525 feet above ground level. The landing was made on runway 26R, which had a length of 2,738 meters. The threshold height at 146 feet above ground level was excessively over target, while the threshold speed was well above target at 127 knots.
The touchdown point was 497 meters beyond the touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 94 knots and a touchdown rate of -162 feet per minute, both of which were good. The runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.6 meters from the centerline. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -5 degrees Celsius, with a wind speed of 7 knots at a direction of 330 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 6 knots and a headwind of 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,191 meters, which accounted for 43% of the runway. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 3 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 285 nautical miles, taking 68 minutes, and the aircraft used 597 kilograms of fuel
The Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft successfully landed at Hartsfield Jackson Atlanta International Airport (KATL) on runway 26R. The final approach was initiated from the east, heading 268.0° at a distance of 3 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,525 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft touched down on the runway, which has a length of 2,738 meters.
The landing performance was evaluated, and it was found that the threshold height at 146 feet agl was excessively over the target, indicating that the aircraft descended more than expected before reaching the runway threshold. However, the threshold speed of 127 knots was well above the target, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain a safe speed during the approach. The touchdown speed of 94 knots was good, and the touchdown rate of -162 feet per minute (fpm) was also within acceptable limits.
The touchdown point was located 497 meters beyond the touchdown zone, which is slightly further than ideal. Additionally, the runway touchdown position was slightly misaligned by 5.6 meters from the centerline. These deviations may be attributed to factors such as wind or pilot error.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of -5°C, with a wind speed of 7 knots from 330°. The crosswind component was 6 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots. These conditions may have contributed to the deviations in the landing performance.
The total landing distance was 1,191 meters, which is 43% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to stop safely within a reasonable distance. The runway rollout alignment was very good, suggesting that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled descent during the landing.
Overall, the landing performance of the Cessna CJ4 Citation aircraft at KATL was satisfactory, with some minor deviations in the threshold height and touchdown point. However, the aircraft was able to maintain a safe speed and touchdown rate, and the runway rollout alignment was excellent.
