A small uncorrected heading error at 40 knots becomes a metre of offset per second by 100 knots, noticed only at rotation, producing a crabbed liftoff. Root cause is nearly always eyes on the tape instead of the far end of the runway. Small heading changes displace a distant point visibly long before the nearby centreline stripes look wrong.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with seven checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 3,350 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 254 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Boeing 737 MAX 8 departed Calgary International Airport (CYYC) on runway 17R. The take-off roll was 2,016 m, using 52 % of the runway, and rotation occurred at 163 kt. Local weather was 4 °C with a wind 7 kt from 190°, giving a 1 kt cross-wind and a 7 kt head-wind.
Initial climb to 1,000 ft agl took 22 seconds, averaging 2,042 fpm and reaching 189 kt at the top of the segment. The aircraft then climbed from 4,564 ft asl to 36,602 ft asl in 18 minutes, covering 119 nm, beginning about 1 mile south of CYYC. Cruise was level at 37,000 ft asl for 48 minutes, covering 385 nm, starting roughly 11 miles west of Jaques Farms Airport (CJF4). Descent began from 37,003 ft asl to 2,093 ft asl in 24 minutes, covering 145 nm, starting about 12 miles north of Virden / RJ Andrew Field Regional Aerodrome (CYVD).
On final approach to runway 36 at Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport (CYWG), descent from 1,335 ft agl to 44 ft agl took 103 seconds. Stabilisation checks at 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway were all met: gear down, landing flap, sink rate, glideslope, centreline, speed, and wings level. The landing gear was lowered at 2,746 ft agl at 182 kt; the final flap position 7 was selected at 1,941 ft agl at 170 kt.
Landing was on runway 36, which is 3,350 m long. The threshold height was good and the threshold speed was 147 kt. The flare was described as perfect. Touchdown occurred 254 m down the runway at 144 kt, a little fast, with a descent rate of minus 62 fpm, and alignment was perfect. No bounce was observed. Total landing distance was 1,366 m, 41 % of the runway, and rollout alignment was perfect.
After landing, taxi to the parking area took 2 minutes and covered less than 1 nm. The overall flight covered 658 nm in 101 minutes and used 3,578 kg of fuel.
