Slow down before tight turns
Twenty knots on a monitor produces the visual sensation of about ten. The advice to "taxi at a walking pace" cannot fix this, because your sense of walking pace is exactly the thing that's broken. Put the groundspeed readout in your scan and obey it for the next fifty flights, the way a student pilot leans on the airspeed indicator before learning to read attitude.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,724 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,724 m of the 2,790 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 393 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with the aircraft taxiing from the parking area to the runway at EKVG Vágar Airport, taking approximately 4 minutes to cover less than 1 nautical mile. The departure roll took place on runway 30, with the aircraft taking off after covering 63% of the runway's length. The takeoff distance was 1,137 meters, and the liftoff speed was 151 knots.
As the aircraft climbed to a higher altitude, it encountered local weather conditions of 16°C temperature and a wind speed of 19 knots at 312°. The crosswind was 5 knots, and the headwind was 18 knots. The enroute climb started overhead Sorvagur, Faroe Islands, where the aircraft climbed from 1,144 feet above sea level to 35,975 feet above sea level, an increase of 34,831 feet in 20 minutes, covering 121 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise began 80 miles northwest of EGPW Unst Airport, Shetland Islands, Scotland, and lasted for 68 minutes, covering 529 nautical miles. The aircraft then started its enroute descent 4 miles southeast of Vejle, Denmark, descending from 37,241 feet above sea level to 3,309 feet above sea level, a decrease of 33,932 feet in 18 minutes, covering 112 nautical miles.
The enroute level cruise started again 1 mile north of Grabau, Germany, and lasted for 2 minutes, covering 6 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its final descent overhead Jersbek, Germany, descending from 2,914 feet above sea level to 1,289 feet above sea level, a decrease of 1,625 feet in 2 minutes, covering 5 nautical miles.
The final approach to runway 23 at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport was made from the northeast, heading 231.0° at 4 nautical miles and 1,248 feet above ground level. The landing took place on runway 23, which was 2,790 meters long. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was slightly above the target at 133 knots.
The touchdown distance was good at 393 meters, but the touchdown speed was a little fast at 130 knots. The touchdown rate was firm at -339 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was perfect. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were 20°C temperature and a wind speed of 12 knots at 290°, with a crosswind of 10 knots and a headwind of 6 knots.
The total landing distance was 1,641 meters, which was 59% of the runway's length. The runway rollout alignment was very good. The aircraft then taxiied to the parking area from the runway, taking approximately 9 minutes to cover 1 nautical mile.
The total flight distance was 781 nautical miles, taking 123 minutes, and the aircraft used 5,656 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Airbus A321 successfully landed at EDDH Hamburg Helmut Schmidt Airport, achieving a high score of 97.9%. The aircraft approached the runway from the north east, heading 231.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,248 feet above ground level (agl). The final approach was executed with precision, and the aircraft landed safely on runway 23, which has a length of 2,790 meters.
The threshold height was good, indicating that the aircraft was at the correct altitude as it approached the runway. However, the threshold speed was slightly above the target speed of 132 kt, which is a minor deviation. The touchdown distance of 393 meters was within the acceptable range, demonstrating good control and precision during the landing.
The touchdown speed of 130 kt was a little fast, which may have resulted in a firmer touchdown rate of -339 feet per minute (fpm). Despite this, the runway touchdown alignment was perfect, indicating that the aircraft was well-aligned with the runway centerline at the moment of touchdown.
The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 20°C and a wind speed of 12 kt from 290°. The crosswind component was 10 kt, while the headwind component was 6 kt. These conditions did not appear to have a significant impact on the landing.
The total landing distance of 1,641 meters was 59% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight. The runway rollout alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was well-controlled and stable during the rollout phase.
Overall, the landing was executed with precision and control, and the aircraft was safely on the ground. The minor deviations in threshold speed and touchdown speed did not appear to have a significant impact on the overall performance of the landing.
