MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Arrival
Fly a steeper descent on final so you cross the threshold at 50 ft agl instead of 85 ft agl.
What happened: The aircraft crossed the threshold at 85 ft agl against a 50 ft agl target, well above the normal profile. The touchdown point was also long at 1,016 m against a 457 m target, a pattern often seen after high threshold crossings.
Watch for: Radio altimeter against the 50 ft threshold crossing target on short final.
Ground effect becomes significant below about one wingspan of height. A Cessna 172, with a 36 ft span, enters ground effect at flare height - the float it feels in the hold-off is ground effect arriving on cue. An A320, with a span around 117 ft, has been in ground effect since before the threshold and there is no sudden cushion to feel, only a gradual reduction in induced drag that lengthens any float you allow.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
Two stabilised approach gates, each with six checks, where the approach path is 1,000 ft and 500 ft above the runway. They are the approach's score: the checks passed out of the checks that ran.
The approach, gate by gate
Side view — the last 1,716 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,716 m of the 3,283 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 1,016 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Cessna 750 Citation X taxied from the parking area to runway 30 at KIAD Washington Dulles International Airport in 9 minutes, covering a distance of 3 nm.
During the departure roll on runway 30, the aircraft used 1,117 m of runway, representing 35 % of the available length, and lifted off at 136 kt; ambient temperature was 27 °C with wind from 070° at 10 kt, a 7 kt crosswind component and an 8 kt tailwind component.
Climb commenced approximately 1 mile north of South Riding, Virginia, and the aircraft ascended from 1,114 ft asl to 37,000 ft asl, a gain of 35,886 ft achieved in 17 minutes while covering 98 nm.
Level cruise began about 5 miles south-east of Parsons, West Virginia, and persisted for 39 minutes, during which the aircraft traveled 316 nm.
Descent was initiated roughly 3 miles south of the 0IA Barbee Lake Seaplane Base Warsaw, Indiana, with the aircraft descending from 37,006 ft asl to 1,944 ft asl, a loss of 35,062 ft over 20 minutes and a distance of 121 nm.
The final approach to runway 28C at KORD Chicago O’Hare International Airport was flown from the east on a heading of 270.0° at 4 nm and 1,268 ft agl; local conditions were 25 °C, wind from 210° at 11 kt, a 9 kt crosswind and a 5 kt headwind component.
Landing on runway 28C, which is 3,283 m long, occurred with a threshold height of 85 ft agl that was significantly above target and a threshold speed of 120 kt; touchdown was recorded 594 m beyond the touchdown zone at 110 kt, with a touchdown rate of minus 249 fpm and a runway touchdown position offset 11.5 m from the centreline.
Runway rollout alignment was noted to be slightly off centreline by 11.4 m, and the total landing distance measured 1,629 m, representing 50 % of the runway length.
The aircraft taxied from the runway to the parking area in 7 minutes, traversing another 3 nm.
In total, the flight covered 547 nm, required 95 minutes of elapsed time, and consumed 1,402 kg of fuel.
The Cessna 750 Citation X established a final approach to runway 28C at KORD Chicago O'Hare International Airport from the east, flying a heading of 270.0° at 4 NM and 1,268 ft AGL. Ambient temperature was 25 °C with wind 11 kt from 210°, providing a 5 kt head-wind component and a 9 kt cross-wind component.
At the threshold the aircraft was 85 ft AGL, which was significantly above the target height, and the threshold speed was good at 120 kt. The flare was initiated at this speed.
Touchdown occurred 594 m beyond the designated touchdown zone, with a touchdown speed of 110 kt that was a little fast and a touchdown rate of fair at -249 fpm. The touchdown point was misaligned by 11.5 m from the centreline and the total landing distance measured 1,629 m, representing 50 % of the runway length.
During rollout the aircraft remained slightly misaligned, deviating 11.4 m from the centreline.
To improve future performance, aim to achieve the correct threshold height to avoid the significant excess altitude and adjust the flare to reduce the touchdown point distance beyond the zone. Maintaining a speed closer to the target VREF will also help keep touchdown speed within the optimal range.
