Work on the flare
Arrive slow and the sink rate at the threshold is already above schedule, the flare is short because there is no energy to extend it, and the touchdown is hard in a way that feels exactly like a late flare. Diagnosing a slow arrival as a late flare is the catastrophic misread: you respond by flaring earlier, which bleeds more speed, which makes the next one worse. The tiebreaker is threshold speed against VRef, not feel. Never diagnose a flare without it.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 5,000 ft of the approach.
Plan view — the first 5,000 ft of the 9,870 ft runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 2,433 ft past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a taxiing period from the parking to the runway, which took 9 minutes and covered a distance of 2 nautical miles. The aircraft, a Boeing 737-700, then departed from runway 09 at SVMG Del Caribe Santiago Mariño International Airport, located on the island of Isla Margarita in Venezuela. The takeoff distance was 2,175 feet, which accounted for 22% of the runway length. The liftoff speed was 147 knots.
As the aircraft took off, it encountered local weather conditions with a temperature of 83°F and winds of 6 knots at 86°. The crosswind was 1 knot, while the headwind was 5 knots. The aircraft climbed from 1,054 feet above sea level to 31,977 feet above sea level, an increase of 30,923 feet, in just 10 minutes and covering a distance of 45 nautical miles. This enroute climb started overhead SVMG Del Caribe Santiago Mariño International Airport.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which began 31 miles north of Puerto La Cruz, Venezuela. This phase lasted for 51 minutes and covered a distance of 357 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its descent, which started 16 miles west of SV01 Venelac, Venezuela. The descent from 31,989 feet above sea level to 1,805 feet above sea level, a decrease of 30,184 feet, took 17 minutes and covered a distance of 62 nautical miles.
The aircraft then entered another level cruise phase, which started 11 miles south of SVMC La Chinita International Airport in Maracaibo, Venezuela. This phase lasted for just 4 minutes and covered a distance of 7 nautical miles. The final approach to runway 03L at SVMC La Chinita International Airport was made from the south, with a heading of 23.0° and at an altitude of 4 nautical miles and 1,263 feet above ground level.
The landing on runway 03L was successful, with a touchdown point 1,043 feet beyond the touchdown zone. The touchdown speed was slightly above the target at 116 knots, while the touchdown speed was a little fast at 107 knots. The touchdown rate was fair at -261 feet per minute. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, despite the local weather conditions, which included a temperature of 88°F and winds of 6 knots at 86°. The crosswind was 5 knots, while the headwind was 3 knots.
The total landing distance was 3,941 feet, which accounted for 40% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was slightly misaligned by 31 feet from the centreline. The taxiing period from the runway to the parking took 6 minutes and covered a distance of less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 478 nautical miles, which was covered in 97 minutes, and the aircraft used 7,610 pounds of fuel.
The Boeing 737-700 aircraft successfully landed at La Chinita International Airport, specifically on runway 03L. The final approach was initiated from the south, with a heading of 23.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,263 feet above ground level (agl). The aircraft maintained a good threshold height, which is a crucial aspect of a safe landing.
Upon touchdown, the aircraft's speed was slightly above the target threshold speed of 115 knots, registering at 116 knots. However, the touchdown point was located 1,043 feet beyond the designated touchdown zone, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended landing path. The touchdown speed of 107 knots was also a bit faster than the desired speed, which could have contributed to the extended landing distance.
The aircraft's descent rate was fair, measuring -261 feet per minute, which is a reasonable rate for a safe landing. The runway touchdown alignment was very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing process. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were favorable, with a temperature of 88°F and a relatively light wind of 6 knots from a direction of 86°.
The crosswind component was 5 knots, while the headwind component was 3 knots, which may have contributed to the aircraft's slightly faster touchdown speed. The total landing distance of 3,941 feet was 40% of the runway length, which is a reasonable distance considering the aircraft's size and weight.
During the rollout phase, the aircraft's alignment with the runway centerline was slightly off by 31 feet, which may indicate a slight deviation from the intended path. However, this deviation was relatively minor and did not appear to have any significant impact on the safety of the landing. Overall, the landing was considered successful, with the aircraft coming to a stop safely on the runway.
