MY FS FLIGHTS
Flight Score
Know your rotation speed
A typical trainer rotates in the mid-50s of knots - a 172 at around 55 KIAS, climbing out at a Vy in the low 70s, though check your own POH rather than memorising Cessna's numbers - and the transferable rule is that Vr sits just above the stall speed in takeoff configuration. Rotate early because "it felt ready" and the aircraft lifts off inside ground effect, where induced drag is reduced, then climbs out of it into more drag. On a marginal-performance day the result is an aircraft that lifts off and then refuses to climb, sagging back towards the runway.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,037 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
The 485 m touchdown sits inside the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The flight began with a short taxiing period from the parking to the runway, taking approximately 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The Boeing 737-900 then departed from runway 08 at NFTV Vava'u International Airport, located in Vava'u, Tonga. The takeoff distance was 1,099 meters, which was 122% of the runway length. The aircraft lifted off at a speed of 141 knots.
The local weather conditions at the time of departure were characterized by a temperature of 28 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 3 knots from a direction of 170 degrees. This resulted in a crosswind of 3 knots and a headwind of 1 knot. The aircraft then began its enroute climb, starting 1 mile east of the airport and ascending from an altitude of 1,281 feet above sea level to 37,293 feet above sea level, an increase of 36,012 feet in 25 minutes. The climb covered a distance of 161 nautical miles.
Following the climb, the aircraft entered a level cruise phase, which started 3 miles north of Kolonga, Tongatapu, Tonga. This phase lasted for 116 minutes and covered a distance of 911 nautical miles. The aircraft then began its enroute descent, starting at a latitude of -34.5615593 and a longitude of 176.6333325. The descent took 14 minutes and covered a distance of 161 nautical miles, during which the aircraft decreased its altitude from 38,001 feet above sea level to 1,326 feet above sea level.
The final approach to runway 21 at NZWP RNZAF Base Auckland-Whenuapai was made from the north-east, heading 234.0 degrees at an altitude of 1,231 feet above ground level and a distance of 4 nautical miles from the runway. The landing was made on runway 21, which had a length of 2,037 meters. The threshold height was good, and the threshold speed was also satisfactory at 134 knots.
The touchdown point was 68 meters beyond the touchdown zone, and the touchdown speed was 128 knots, which was considered good. The touchdown rate was smooth at -111 feet per minute, and the runway touchdown alignment was very good. The local weather conditions at the time of landing were characterized by a temperature of 17 degrees Celsius and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 290 degrees, resulting in a crosswind of 1 knot and a headwind of 1 knot.
The total landing distance was 1,003 meters, which was 49% of the runway length. The runway rollout alignment was also very good. The aircraft then taxied to the parking from the runway, taking less than 1 minute and covering less than 1 nautical mile. The total flight distance was 1,240 nautical miles, and the flight duration was 161 minutes. The aircraft used a total of 8,675 kilograms of fuel during the flight.
The Boeing 737-900 aircraft successfully landed at NZWP RNZAF Base Auckland-Whenuapai, achieving a high score of 98.6%. The final approach to runway 21 was conducted from the north east, with a heading of 234.0° at a distance of 4 nautical miles and an altitude of 1,231 feet above ground level.
The aircraft touched down on the runway, with a threshold speed of 134 knots being well within the acceptable range. The touchdown point was located 68 meters beyond the designated touchdown zone, which is a relatively minor deviation. The touchdown speed of 128 knots was also within the acceptable range, indicating a smooth and controlled descent.
The aircraft's touchdown rate was smooth, with a rate of -111 feet per minute. This suggests that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled descent throughout the landing process. The runway touchdown alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was properly aligned with the runway during the landing.
The local weather conditions at the time of the landing were favorable, with a temperature of 17°C and a wind speed of 1 knot from a direction of 290°. This resulted in a negligible crosswind and headwind, making the landing process even smoother.
The total landing distance was 1,003 meters, which is 49% of the runway length. This is a relatively short landing distance, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a high level of control and stability throughout the landing process. The runway rollout alignment was also very good, indicating that the aircraft was able to maintain a stable and controlled roll-out after touchdown.
Overall, the landing of the Boeing 737-900 at NZWP RNZAF Base Auckland-Whenuapai was a successful and well-executed operation, with the aircraft achieving a high score of 98.6%.
