Avoid steep turns at low altitude
Below a thousand feet the aeroplane is slow, heavy and close to the ground. A steep turn loses lift, raises the stall speed and flattens the climb just when the gradient matters most. A normal turn on course is a rate one — fifteen degrees or so, twenty-five at the outside, this penalty is to acknowledge when a turn has stopped being a turn and become a manoeuvre.

The threshold, the flare and the hold-off. The approach that led to it is the stabilisation gates below.
One stabilised approach gate: five checks where the approach path is 500 ft above the runway. The 1,000 ft gate was not assessed, because the approach did not join final that far out.
Side view — the last 1,524 m of the approach.
Plan view — the first 1,524 m of the 2,587 m runway, to the same scale as the side view.
Touched down 515 m past the threshold — beyond the full-score zone. The arrival was smooth.
The rest of the report
The Airbus A321 flight began with a smooth taxi from the parking area to the runway at LEBL El Prat, with the process taking 10 minutes to cover a distance of 2 nm. The departure roll from runway 24L involved a takeoff distance of 4,245 ft, representing 49% of the entire runway length. The liftoff speed during takeoff was recorded at 162 knots. The local weather at the time indicated a temperature of 68 °F, with a wind speed of 11 knots coming from 289°, resulting in an 8-knot crosswind and headwind.
The enroute climb commenced 1 mile southwest of LEBL El Prat Barcelona, progressing from an altitude of 1,023 ft above sea level to 18,914 ft, achieving an altitude increase of 17,891 ft within 9 minutes and covering 17 nm. Following the climb, the aircraft reached an enroute cruise level 18 miles south of Castelldefels for a duration of 7 minutes, covering a distance of 48 nm.
As the journey progressed, the enroute descent phase began 28 miles north of Port de Soller, wherein the aircraft descended from 18,975 ft to 2,232 ft, experiencing an altitude drop of 16,743 ft over 12 minutes and covering a distance of 42 nm. The landing was executed on runway 24L at LEPA Palma De Mallorca, with a runway length of 8,488 ft. The threshold height was 44 ft above ground level, with a speed of 151 knots upon approach.
The touchdown occurred 1,692 ft from the threshold, with a touchdown speed of 150 knots and a vertical speed indicator (VSI) reading of -226 ft/m. The weather conditions at the time of landing showed a temperature of 71 °F, with a wind speed of 15 knots coming from 270°, resulting in an 8-knot crosswind and a 13-knot headwind.
The total landing distance covered was 4,163 ft, representing 49% of the runway length. Following a seamless touchdown, the aircraft taxied back to the parking area from the runway in just 2 minutes, covering less than 1 nm. The entire flight spanned a distance of 118 nm, lasting 93 minutes total, and consuming 4,393 lbs of fuel throughout the journey.
